It looks as though Sony have shot themselves in the foot - again - by announcing that they will not allow any X rated movies to be produced on Blu-Ray. I think Vivid have stated that they are now looking at doing the titles planned for Blu-Ray on to HD DVD. If this is the case, do you think that this will tip the format towards HD DVD?

Thanks for the info Mike - I saw some of those HD type discs recently but didn't realize that they only played in a PC. Surely that's got to annoy a llt of viewers, considering the cost of the discs? I've heard of the media centres - but those are from people going out and building them themselves. Looking at the way online downloading seems to be going, this may be something that some manufacturer might get into? If Hd is the way of the future - does that mean we might weed out a lot of the crap out there and be left with better titles to spend our money on?

I've just joined the forum and have found it to be a great source of information, reviews and recommendations. I was just wondering if a title was available in an HD format as well as just plain DVD, would you be tempted to buy it? What benefits will the new HD formats bring to the viewing pleasure? Surely if a title is shot and edited in HD, there are a number of standard definition encoders available that can produce a crystal clean image even on the current HD screens. Also, for those in the production side of things, will the new formats reduce the number of titles coming out because of longer disc production times and testing? Or will titles simply come out with better encode quality and minimal features? Topic Moved by - hardware o...
