  • Christian Station Resurrected as 'Porn Radio' (topic moved) 7/28/2006 3:13:44 PM
Station changes format from God to sex Fresno radio station refers to itself as 'Porn Radio' KINGSBURG, California (AP) -- KFYE-FM hasn't budged from the Fresno-area dial, but it's about as far as you can get from the Christian music, sermons and Bible stories it was broadcasting until about a week ago. Now it calls itself "Porn Radio" -- "all sex radio, all the time," with a suggestion that people under 21 not listen. Songs with little in common except suggestive titles and lyrics fill the playlist, including "Why Don't We Do It in the Road" by The Beatles, "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye and "Nasty" by Janet Jackson. Tamer songs are heated up by adding recorded moans and groans. The ch...
  • Pornography is better for society than religion... 6/14/2006 1:30:56 PM
Thinking about it overnight, let me amend my one statement to read: "Some people pray. Others masturbate to porn. I would argue that clearly, the latter gives you better results...:)." Religion and porn is a topic I find endlessly fascinating (and infuriating). Here's an op-ed piece I wrote on the subject for the July 2005 AVN: Forget Porn, How 'Bout a Task Force on Religious Obscenity Ever since Bush IIs re-election (How Can 56 Million People Be So Dumb? blared a British newspaper the day after), Ive been watching with increasing concern as W repays the religious right for its political support by catering to their positively un-American agenda such as making church/state separation an endangered species and imposing their...

Kudos to "Shotgun." (No, I am not he, in case anyone was wondering.) Much of the opposition to perfectly legal adult fare comes from a ludicrous moral code that stems from a book written thousands of years by human beings who, by today's standards, were (literally) ignoramuses. I'm talking about, of course, that great fictional work called the Bible, of which secularists seem to know more about than its followers. Society might as well derive its morality from the equally mythological Roman or Greek or Norse Gods. Actually, those guys (and gals) were regular party animals compared to the stern and stuffy monotheistic God of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Who'd ever invite him to a party? Some people pray. Others masturbate to p...

Tod Hunter writes: "I can send you a copy of The Elements of Style if you promise to read it, Mike." Tod - this is an informal message board. Is there some part of that you don't understand? But more to the point is that too bad you weren't such a meticulous copy editor while at AVN, as you fancy yourself in your post-AVN career. I remember numerous occasions when a lengthy piece of hard copy was given to you to proof, and you would return it to me in about sixty lazy seconds, with maybe one fly-by-night notation after your quite obviously superficial scan of it. Guess you couldn't wait to get back to writing that Insider column of yours which concerned itself with just about everything but porn. Tod - you were writing for an ad...

Third Degree's Tony posts: "Third Degree wasn't nominated for Best New Company although I firmly believe we should have been (we probably would have lost anyways because we didn't take enough people out to lunch or kiss enough ass).... We're still waiting on a real answer. The "well, you had 4 releases out before the cut-off date" excuse is just tired old bullshit." Tony - Paul, me and the rest of the AVN staff have nothing but respect for Joey, Chris, Pat, you and the rest of Third Degree (whose product I personally love), and we've always had a good relationship, so I'm a little surprised at the tone of your post, The truth of the matter is simple: rightly or wrongly, we felt that Third Degree had been around a little...
  • AVN Awards Show Performer Comp Ticket Policy 12/5/2005 9:27:48 PM
As always, many adult industry performers will be admitted to the Jan. 7 Awards Show for free. However, while AVN would like to accommodate every single performer who will be in Las Vegas, we simply can't since we only have a finite number of comp tickets. Comp tickets are for performers only. Nominees in the performer and sex scene categories, and other high profile performers who have worked consistently during the past year for established, mainstream adult companies will get priority. Performers who have not worked much or at all, or who have worked for lesser known companies outside of California, will be placed on a waiting list. If any tickets are left on the afternoon of the show, they will be contacted, though the past few yea...
  • AVN Awards Are Worthless! 11/27/2005 5:45:39 PM
Hi Shane: I take it you never won an AVN Award?...:) As for Ramsey, who writes: "I thought it was common knowledge that those who pay Fishbein get their awards. That should explain why Vivid keeps getting awards." No, Vivid keeps getting awards because they win in the voting. Of course, a few years back, they all but got shut out. But don't let that fact get in the way of your "common knowledge." Nor this one: Anabolic/Diabolic aren't advertisers, but that hasn't stopped them from winning AVN Awards too. Ah, facts are a bitch, aren't they? Mike Ramone Editor in Chief Adult Video News
  • AVN Performer of the Year 11/25/2005 2:43:45 PM
The various discussions here about our nominations (starlet, female performer, female foreign performer) are fascinating, but I need to point a few things out. Those wondering about where the contract girl noms are should see our new category, Crossover Star of the Year. Someone else was aghast that we didn't nom Sandra Romain for Female Foreign Performer of the Year. That's cause we nommed her simply for Female Performer of the Year since she did all her work over the past year here. And we didn't "forget" anyone - we carefully considered all the names mentioned on these threads and made our decisions, whether people agree with them or not. Yes, we realize that some performers who have worked very hard over the past year and are ...
  • Melissa Lauren's best? 8/13/2005 10:43 AM
Another VERY rough Melissa scene is her threeway with Brian Surewood and Joel Lawrence in Anabolic's "I Wanna Get Face Fucked." I also love her threeway with dominant, deliciously bitchy Avy Lee Roth and Everhard in RLD's "Fuck Dolls 3." And for those into SMBD, both volumes of "Hellfire Sex" from Pariah/JM are recommended; Melissa directed and appears in them as a sadistic, domineering Top, though she doesn't actually have any hardcore sex in them I believe.

PL, apology accepted. Btw, I'm curious as to what AVN review contained the Ashley Blue error. If you know, shoot me an e-mail with the title of the production at ramone@avn.com so I can correct it. As for Bll and Astroknight's rationalizing defenses of you stating that Gia Paloma is "natural," well, nice try fellas, but no cigar. She's no longer natural. To say otherwise is simply inaccurate.

btw - and this irony is too delicious - he who throws stones about porn stars chests shouldn't live in glass houses. I just checked out your site and in your home page profile of "featured star" Gia Paloma, you state that she's "natural." Wrong. As of about six weeks ago, she has a bitchin' big pair of bolt-ons.
  • Lethal Hardcore dvd reviews? 7/29/2005 8:26 PM
Well, gee willikers, we made a factual mistake. Listen, if I had a dollar for every factual mistake I read in other publications/websites' reviews, I would have retired a long time ago. AVN's not perfect and neither is any other adult reviewer. The vast majority of our hundreds of reviews per issue are accurate, informative and to the point. Who needs to read, as I've spotted on other sites, 400 word paragraphs describing a single sex scene? Personally, I find such reviews ridiculously over-written and fat. Sometimes, less is more. But each to their own.

<link> , click on &quot;reviews&quot; on the upper left side of the home page, wait a few seconds til the search engine comes up, then enter Lethal Hardcore in the company name category and you'll get a boatload.
  • Tory Lane is THE BOMB!!! 7/27/2005 9:06 PM
She absolutely is the Bomb, all but a shoo-in in my opinion for an AVN Best New Starlet nom later this year, though I'm only one person. Hey Tory, call me at the office; let's do that interview we talked about already.
