  I think it's an industry fact that adult VOD sales shot up in 2005 in the USA, while DVD retail took a dive. That's also true to a much lesser extent in the UK. Why pay 45 bucks for a DVD when you can download scenes or the whole thing for a shitload less money? If you're not bothered about missing out on the 'packaging experience' (something few producers other than Harmony bother with; their stuff is always nicely presented), then it makes a lot of sense. The UK consumer still has a problem with online transactions, however (hardly any of them have ever heard the phrase 'chargeback', for starters), which has slowed things down. Personally, I'd much rather have a DVD in my hand than a download. But then I'm very lazy and get my porn...

  We ran a feature on this in Mayfair recently. As far as adult DVD goes, it's the same story in the UK. The sex shops report a downturn in trade, although few of them have thought about dropping their retail prices to encourage new business. The average release sells for approximately 46 dollars. Of that 46 bucks, the producer might see $7.50-8.50 per unit. So there's no money to re-invest, either. The big kick in the balls in the UK was the enforcement of the R18 mail order rules. Basically, if you run an adult store in the UK, you're not allowed to mail order AT ALL. It's okay if you run a business in the US and mail order it back in. But not within the UK, and they came down hard on internet retailers run out of the UK for the same ...

  Hey Picman. I don't think it's an urban myth. I've been on too many sets over the last few years where the male talent has had to spank his monkey like a zoo-bound chimp in order to cum. And I've been on several sets where the directors have thrown their toys out the pram because the male talent can't cum. And Viagra has been blamed by both parties each time.
