I have spent many, many hours researching and testing products and this is what I use: To clean a minor fingerprint breath on the surface and wipe with a lens tissue or microfiber cloth (for cleaning glasses). CD Playright works quite well for dirty and discs and minor scratches. By far the best product for repairing minor to moderate scratches is Novus (WAY better than brasso). You can get Novus on ebay.   Long version: Generally, you can't tell by the label because most if not all companies sell media from different manufacturers. You can read through the hundreds of posts and reviews in the cdfreaks forum about what media is best. Short version: Fuji DVD+R or DVD-R manufactured in Japan. They have a distinct cakebox with a black base (50 pack). These are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, which has one of the best reputations in the business.

  A DVD9 (Dual Layer) disc has two polycarbonate platters that are glued together. It sounds like the layers weren't bonded entirely together. Its a manufacturing defect.
