  The annual cap on out of pocket expenses is one of the most important features. There are no doubt things that are exempted (no more than on existing policies), but the cap on out-of-pocket is a big deal. Ans for those who think it doesn't matter if &quot;other people&quot; get care, think epidemics, and you will see one of the reasons that people feel more comfortable in countries with universal coverage and no obstacles to popping in for care.

  Okay. On topic. From my first post on this thread. ... I had assumed that the CEO's point was that obamacare would add only the tiniest, most trivial 10 cents to the cost of a pizza. Then I scroll down the responses here to see that evidently he meant it the other way, that 10 cents added to the cost of the pizza was supposed to be a calamity that we will not stand for. This tells you everything you need to know about trickle down economics. We will not stand for 10 cents added to the cost of a pizza merely to provide health care to the people of our nation.

  It has not been outlawed. If it existed before 2010 when the ACA was passed, it was grandfathered as long as the company kept it unchanged. The company chose to change and/or discontinue it. It's only a perfect plan for her if she didn't need to be protected (and clearly, she misunderstood what it was--she thought she had a $50 copay for office visits, when actually, the company would only pay $50 toward an office visit). And with no coverage for hospitalization, it's only a perfect plan if you want to shift the cost of her cancer/appendectomy/stroke to taxpayers and people with real insurance.   Yeah, I never could figure out how Obama could say that you could keep your current doctor and your current plan. We never could before. How could he say we would in the future? At the clinics we went to, you NEVER got the same doctor twice (maybe if we went more often...?). The one who did your pap smear last year moved to Michigan, and now this doctor from Estonia is here to do it. There is no way that anyone can say if you like your doctor you get to keep her. And then; insurance plans. They are absolutely never the same plan this year as last year. Not once in my experience with several companies over the 40 years that I've been reading my plans. There has NEVER been a time when anyone could guarantee that you keep your plan. In fact, ...

  15%? I wish. Our ordinary Blue Cross Blue Shield went up 18% to 25% a year since 1996, doubling every 4 years or so. Remember that old thing about putting a penny on the first square of a chessboard, 2 cents on the second square, 4 cents on the third, and doubling it every square? What does that come out to after 64 squares? By the way, old policies ARE grandfathered so you can keep your exact old individual policy UNTIL the company changes the plan, at which time it is not the same plan, and so is no longer grandfathered. If the company leaves your plan completely unchanged, you can keep it (even if it is a scam plan that covers nothing). The company decides to un-grandfather the plan, not the government. These companies change their plans...

  consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a cancellation letter or the equivalent The equivalent that you speak of is a choice of other plans, none of which have preexisting conditions. The cancellation may be due to the company just using obamacare as an excuse. Or it may be that their policies do not meet the minimum standards of insurance. I have mentioned before that someone I knew who said that she worked at a convenience store part time (she had other part time jobs as well) only kept the job for the health insurance. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she found that the most that the insurance would pay out was $1,500 annually. That was used up in a couple of days. Farcical. Well, it doesn't matter anyway...

  So let's face it - child labor and universal health insurance coverage are miles apart on any scale. I think liberals were right to fight for the former, but the latter is ambitious, costly, and way too much tinkering with something that just isn't that broken. A) It's broken B) The countries that do what they can to end child labor are the same ones that espouse universal health coverage, and vice versa. Good countries to live in/bad countries to live in. C) Other countries do &quot;ambitious, costly&quot; universal coverage, and the people in those countries are not having this discussion, because they would not in any circumstance trade what they have for what the U.S. has.
