  Why is there such a trend for tattoos with American sexworkers? I refer to the women who are camgirls, strippers, escorts and adult video actresses, spending their time flipping between the different things depending on each person. Here in the UK, tattoos are traditionally associated with people of lower socio-economic status. Those who culturally identify as working class. When people of middle and upper middle class see someone who is heavily tattooed, they make certain assumtions about them and in certain more genteel environments, the individual will (at least inititally) be regarded as an outsider, rough, or simply the wrong sort.   I just looked at the website front page for the 2013 sex awards and it is a big spread of winners. Looks like the fans did a perfectly good job with their voting. So long as AVN set the appropriate nominations for each category, then every winner is a worthy one. And if a performer has barely shot that past year, she likely won't make the AVN determined nomination list. If we take those primary 18 awards i listed and have the fans select from the nominations, i don't see the problem. Every nominee will make a credible winner. These 18 aren't technical awards, any porn fan will be able to have an opinion. They aren't highly nuanced categories that only industy veterans can appreciate and decide upon.   It's easy to grow averse to grow averse to certain male talent. Or even directors who shoot in a certain way with certain angles. It's something everyone learns after one or two pornsite memberships. I grew to really dislike scenes with James Deen. It's treated like an event, him being in a scene, like he's the star and the girls are secondary. The guy doesn't know how to be invisible or even try.   For the 2015 AVN Awards there were 108 award categories, of which 9 were fan voted. Only 9. Why aren't many more of the awards either fan voted or voted for by a much wider number of the industry, at least several hundred people including everyone gathered there in the room. Much more akin to the Acadamy Awards aka Oscars. During the 2015 ceremony itself, the below 18 awards were handed out, with the winners taking the stage. All of these 18 could be decided by the fans or fellow performers, and would carry more meaning because of it. None of these categories are rocket science, any fan could browse through the nominations and select their choice.   When OP says take it seriously, i interpret that as meaning having high regard or respect for the porn industry. Well, there are justifiable reasons why the public doesn't. Porn doesn't have the regulation or workers rights of other industries. And because of the low entry barrier to be a performer, producer, talent agent or whatever; there are enough bad eggs mixed in with the good to create enough headlines and tarnish the whole show in the minds of the public.
