  Man, this sucks. He was one of my favorite directors. I really enjoyed the Rialto Report interview. I was contemplating reaching out to him to see if he would want to do an interview just focused on his features only. Unfortunately, that cannot be. Rest in peace, Paul.

  Some comments on Vivid, as I would consider myself a "fan" of their older videos... a lot of them aren't on DVD. Best bet then is to find VHS versions (yeah, it sucks, I know) on Ebay. I have picked up most of the old Vivid flicks I was looking for this way. It seems that many "Mom and Pop" and adult VHS rental outlets alike were dumping their VHS inventories en masse a few years ago, but it still continues somewhat even today. A lot of the tapes I have are obvious prior rentals, but "used" is pretty much all you can get these days. There was a time (I would guestimate about 1995 or 1996) that Vivid began editing re-issues of a lot (all?) of their older features and cutting the running times down to 70 minutes....

  Wow, this was one of my favorite films and a fixation of mine for some time. I have done a lot of research and here is what I can tell you: There is a double penetration "rape" scene at the end of the film with Vanessa Del Rio, George Payne, and R.J. Reynolds. - I have heard rumors that there were VHS (not sure about DVD) versions that completely omit this scene entirely.   I don't know about this movie specifically but I have seen this happen one other time. Ironically/interestingly enough, it was also a Paul Thomas flick. The film was "Back to Rears" from 1988. It was what I would call a quasi-Cheers parody/ripoff. Anyhow, in "Back To Rears" there was a message displayed before the start of the film indicating that the set had been raided by the feds(!) and filming had to be completed at a later time. One key character was played by both Tracy Adams and Ona Zee. I think the other dual role was played by Joey Silvera and Damien Cashmere.   My wife doesn't mind. However, I think it's one of those things she doesn't care to see either. We have watched a couple movies together, like "The Masseuse", but I don't think she cared for it, or at least she didn't care to see more. But, she knows I have my collection, and that's fine. She doesn't harp on me about it. None of my ex girlfriends did either. I think if a woman asked me to get rid of it, I would have to re-assess our relationship. Porn has been with me for too many years to just abandon. It's a part of who I am (some days I think it's a curse, others not so much), and if you can't accept it, then you aren't the person for me.

  My first porn was an edited softcore version of the Chasey Lain vehicle "Scrue" on the Playboy Channel in the summer of 1995 via friend's grandparent's illegal cable hookup. I was 13 or thereabouts. We taped it too and I still have the video and watched it again semi-recently. First hardcore was a Vivid comp with the same friend a year or so later.   I'll probably take a lot of shit for saying this but lately I have been on a Paul Thomas (as director) kick; collecting his films from the early nineties when he would release full length titles on two tapes. So far I have enjoyed "House of Sleeping Beauties", "The Phoenix", "Indian Summer" etc. I also liked the "Rears" (Cheers ripoff with the lovely Tracey Adams) series, and "Twentysomething" movies, "The Swap" and "The Masseuse". Most of these aren't on DVD, unfortunately.

  My thoughts on this... I strongly dislike censorship. However, I do "self censor" meaning I don't seek out stuff that I personally find distasteful. I don't like it, I don't watch it. No problem. The moment someone says "I find XYZ offensive, so therefore YOU can't watch it" I have a problem. So, I guess to answer your question, I do not think we need laws governing what is or isn't cool to put on film. So long as the participants are of legal age and willing to do the scene, and there are folks out there willing to pay for this material I don't see a problem. Keep in mind, there are some people who find all porn (even the Vivid/cable variety) offensive and think it should be banned. It's hard to have a middle ground in...

  The Vivid Video company used to have a habit of editing their movies to 70 minutes to fit shorter tapes when they re-released them as catalog titles. As a collector, I have learned to watch out for this, and I could tell by the labeling on the tape (in this case, Bad Girls 3) that the video was first issue, and not a catalog re-release.

  It is most certainly "Breaking It". The movie is not available since Traci Lords was underage in the original release, but the scene in question was featured in a (legal) compilation called "Best Scenes from a Trilogy".
