  Hello, Being an Andrew Blake fan, I was thrilled to hear that four of his best known films (I am referring to House Of Dreams, Secrets, and Night Trips 1 and 2) are now available on DVD through Caballero. However, after reading reviews which described the HORRIBLE transfer these great films received at the hands of Caballero, I decided against buying the discs. I did manage to find a followup on the board indicating that Caballero has in fact re-issued Night Trips with a newer (apparently better) transfer, as well as some additional features (mainly trailers for Blake's other films). Anyhow, I was curious to know if Night Trips 2, House Of Dreams, and Secrets have received the same treatment, and been re-issued as well. Caballero'...

  Okay guys and gals, here is the thing with Vivid: A vast majority of their features are shot on FILM as opposed to video. When film is transferred to a high quality digital format such as DVD, the grain begins to show. Most other porn companies (with a few exceptions) are shooting on video. The video to DVD transfer will be clearer, and have less artifacts. I'm not trying to make excuses for Vivid here, just offering up a plausible explanation for some of the problems viewers are mentioning. I would have to agree that they should do better transfers though. If you go back and look at some the their old VHS releases from the early nineties, the film to video transfers are lousy there as well. As for the editing of re-releases, this has be...

  Hey, I just wanted to say that I appreciate your efforts on reviewing the DVDs of classic films and letting all of us know what was cut. You're doing a great service to collectors everywhere. On that note, I was curious to know if you have looked at Caballero's DVD release of the 1981 film "Filthy Rich". I've heard through one source on RAME that a rape scene involving Vanessa Del Rio was omitted from a VHS release. Filthy Rich is available in the digital format now, so I was curious if you have seen the DVD, and can confirm that cuts were made. Thanks, Justin

  I keep all of my vids in locked storage boxes in the closet. You can find some nifty file folder storage type boxes at Target for real cheap, and put videos in those. Mine hold 31 tapes exactly. However, I guess I should mention that I don't keep the original factory cases for my videos (unless they are normal size and fit the tape). Justin

  Does anyone know if Caballero alters the contents of films that they transfer to DVD? How about videos of their older titles such as "House Of Dreams", "Secrets", and "Night Trips"? I can only think of one instance where they edited something from a tape of "Filthy Rich" I bought some time ago. It seems to me that there have been quite a few complaints against them with regard to poor quality film to DVD transfers; I couldn't help but wonder if they did the editing too.   Hi Lambchop, I would have to agree with what others have said. Honesty is the best policy here. If you are thinking of having a long term relationship, you should tell her your "secret" now. That way, if she's not cool with it, you can eject from the relationship before things get too serious. Be careful in how you approach the subject though. You've already indicated that she has an interest in stripping. Since it appears you two have had discussions about sex related topics, you can bring up your porn in a similar fashion. Talk about a movie you've seen recently, or start up the ever popular "how old were you when you saw your first film?" discussion. Then gage her response and act accordingly. FYI, porn has not ...

  In the case of "Ginger On The Rocks", and other titles, it could be some lame attempt to "update" the film, and give it a newer look (go figure). However, I still truly believe the answer lies with copyright or licensing issues.   I'm going to take a stab at this since no one else has stepped up. I would guess it is a copyright/licensing issue. I say this because I have observed similar changes, not on DVD, but on cable. For instance, none of the same music from the hardcore version of the Vivid film "Scandal" was used in the cable version. In fact, I can not recall ever hearing any of the music pieces from the hardcore "Scandal" in cable versions of ANY Vivid title. It looks like they're making changes to avoid paying royalties to the "creators" of these musical masterpieces.

  Just wondering if anyone has seen Hyapatia Lee's "Lust In The Woods" on DVD yet, and if it has been cut. I'm sort of reluctant to purchase it for that reason. I think the original (which was a tape release) was 89 minutes. Justin Sinclair

  According to the IAFD, the DVD can be purchased here: http://www.bluedoor.com/movie.cfm?&affiliate_id=181&product_id=1748 Whether this company will actually deliver, or stick it on backorder is anyone's guess. On the other hand, it is nice to see that the Masseuse may soon be available. The edited re-released video has a slightly different ending than the original version of the film did. I hope they fix that on DVD. J. Sinclair

First of all, the edited master is NOT the same version that gets copied to DVD. The DVD copy is a completely different cut all together. Catalog versions of videos are cut off at 70 minutes, but the edited DVDs are sometimes longer. For instance, check out Saki's review of "Masseuse 2" and you'll see the run time is listed at 90 minutes, while the reissued video is around 71 minutes.   I tend to agree. This movie was boring. My wife and I started watching it and eventually got tired and shut it off. The "catalog" version is even worse.   With regard to Masseuse 2, the strap on dildo scene is certainly NOT in the catalog version. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've seen the original, so my recollections of it are pretty vague. However, the catalog version cuts from Asia Carrera fucking Steven St. Croix back to Ashlyn's scene with the guy doing her in a missionary position. No strap on work to be seen. ------------------ J.
