  • DVD Compliances 8/31/2001 6:08 PM
Hey There, Let me give you some information I have just received regarding authoring and compliance on A&E titles. If the main feature has a behind the scenes of the same movie, than the compliance covers the main feature and behind the scenes. If you add a bonus scene from another movie on the same DVD, the bonus scene needs compliance prior to the bonus scenes. And in the case of previews or trailers, the date of production of the compilation of the reel of trailers is the compliance information that needs to be at the beginning of the trailer reel. Thus, if user hits play all they see compliance, than all of the trailers. We are just starting to do this, and I have spoken to A&E's compliance people and so far it is not necessary to compl...

schandor and all: Received a copy of Appassionata and while I am still going through it, one of the things I noticed right away is the 2 disc set, and the disc with the feature has no rom function on it (meaning web link)....Now this has caused some issues in the past with desk top players, but maybe this is an issue with set tops, specifically Toshiba. Another overall problem, is we are pushing technologies on all ends, authoring and players....Somewhere something is not going to be compatable with all discs. Some of the older players have trouble with the newer discs coming out. The amount of information creates problems for the reader. We are going to see these problems from the past, in the present and on in to the future as the techn...

Hi Bill, Thanks for your response. I agree, player problems can reduce sales of certain lines of product, the problem is what has the player manufacturer done differently that takes it out of the "standard" for dvd playability, and it is not just with A&E. This starts going into the area of desk tops, not all desk tops are compatible as well. And if we try to accommodate "un-standard" into the authoring, then we open the door to more problems with playability. Reading through these forums, A&E just happens to be the most recent movie pin pointed as not playing on these machines, numerous other titles are listed as well... We are trying to figure out what makes the in-compatible, and when we find the answers we will adjus...
  • Problems With Adam & Eve 6/29/2001 1:37 PM
Hi Schandor, Boy do I get a funny feeling when I go into the forum and see topics like Problems with Adam & Eve, but by the same token, I appreciate the input. I'm sorry you have been unable to view the fine products on A&E, but I have been seeing numerous problems similar to yours and yes it is all revolving around the player. I do the DVD authoring and graphics for many of the A&E titles and I am always available should you need some technical support about the functionality of the DVD's. I can be reached at kat@imagewarrior.com and am always open to suggestions, comments, questions or whatever you might need on the DVD's for Adam and Eve. I hope you are able to view your movies, and I am sorry about your machine problems. Kat ImageKat I...
  • Old Classic - ALL AMERICAN GIRLS (Caballero) 6/15/2001 3:59 PM
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. The series is the All American Girls from Caballero, these titles are bought, licensed etc...and Adam and Eve have them for issue on DVD. I'm looking at the original posters from the VHS release and they were from Caballero. As for the editing of the movie, I don't know yet, I have not seen the original, or the revised Beta Masters. Titles are Oriental Jade, Delicious, Heartthrobs All American Girls 1 and 2 Up Up and Away, There is supposed to be 3 titles of 2 movies each, but again a couple of months away...... I hope we will be able to get a good transfer off the masters, but time will tell...I just promise we will do the best we can. Thanks all, Kat

  • 5.1 stereo sound? 2/22/2001 11:07 AM
Hi Takeo, That is correct, the light will go on with both AC-3 and PCM as it is multi channel, but not 5.1. Ahh, the wonders of modern technology. Kat
  • 5.1 stereo sound? 2/21/2001 12:42 PM
Hey there, If I can add my 2 cents worth, here it goes. Most of the movies that are used to go to DVD are Beta Sp split track, vocal in right and music in left, or whatever, but regardless something has to be done to it to get it more to standards of what people expect on the DVD's. You are correct in assuming that alot of people really don't understand unless it is recorded originally 5.1 it can't be 5.1 on the finished version. Only phantom, dolby digital surround, or AC-3, all the same thing, is studio faked surround sound to give you the better sound quality on the DVD. Some people don't fully understand this, but as you the viewers, reviewers and consumers keep pointing it out to the labels, they will get the message, our eyes and ears...
  • Adam & Eve DVD Problems 2/16/2001 12:07 PM
Hi ddavis73, Sonic is correct, it is not that the DVD's are manufacturered any different, rather the amount of technical information that you put on them. With the A&E Premium Collection we have tried to push the envelop with the techno gard, giving as much to the viewer as possible, with features and also very high bit rates so that the movie comes across as clear and as crisp as possible. What all this means to your DVD player is a lot of information to sort through and initiate and sometimes it will not do the proper function. This is why again with the premium series, especially the titles we do you may experience this. We are trying to give A&E a cutting edge in this industry. Again, it is evolving slowly and there is so much that c...

Sonic, Good point, but also keep in mind that these lasers are sensitive to touch and movement. If your machinery has been moved around alot, set down harder than normal dropped or used for long periods of time over the years the lasers have tendency to dull and also be out of alignment, thus mistracking and the such. The same holds true for Rom and audio cd, so the best thing is keep your player in one location and try not to handle the machinery too much. Also with the lasers being within a self contained unit, they should not need to be cleaned as long as the discs themselves are free of foreign material prior to insertion into the machines. Good luck, Thanks, Kat

ddvais: Thanks for the further clarification. What it sounds like is definitely a player issue. This is not to say that it is a dirty head, but rather some lasers have tendency to pick up index points on the disc before they are supposed to and this can cause the skip ahead problem. Again, we go back to the player issue. This is a problem I don't see disappearing 100% in the near future, but will become less and less an issue in time. thanks for the info. kat

Hi Sonic, I stand corrected, what I should have said is that although DVD set tops are more compatible, the standard is not 100%, but much better than desk top and it's just odds are technology improves the player on the newer models, but this is not always the case as noted with Toshiba. Thanks for clearing that up as well. Kat
  • Adam & Eve DVD Problems 2/14/2001 1:26 PM
Sorry one more thing to add, Sony s560D and above or equivalent is what the industry standards shoot for. As with all technology, the newer the models, odds are the technology has been significantly improved. Thanks, Kat
  • Adam & Eve DVD Problems 2/14/2001 1:23 PM
Hi Ddavis73, ImageWarrior does the multimedia for the Premium collection, in this case two of the titles Witch's Tail and Fire and Ice. You maybe experiencing a problem that is not really a problem. On all A&E premium titles, at least the ones we do, there is what we call a hot shot advance button. On each chapter and/or the movie, while you are viewing the chapter you can hit the chapter advance button and it will take you to what A&E calls the hot shot. This is for people who are viewing the movie that want to get right to the pop shot rather than fast forwarding or the like. If after you hit the chapter advance button and it takes you to the cum scene, if you click the chapter advance button again it will take you to the start of the nex...
  • DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 1/5/2001 1:01 PM
jedi69 Happy New year, Just a little info for you. Alot of movies that say Dolby Digital Surround or AC-3 give the effect of Digital 5.1 surround. Most movies when filmed are not recorded 5.1 therefore when we master the product we do what is called phantom 5.1....It gives the sound the 5 point feel of surround. So any movie that lists digital dolby or AC-3 should give you the feel of what you are looking for. Enjoy. Imagekat

Hi Bill, In response to your question about the FBI warning, although yes you can forward through the VHS, we do not allow this function on the DVD by request of clients. Thanks, ImageKat ImageWarrior.com
