  I have never had any problems with the Dell laptops that I've owned in the past. I usually recommend them to people that don't want to work on their own PCs because they have good warranties...Nothing can beat the box you build yourself.

  Hey Bob, Sometimes the mobo companies have closeout lists and off mobos quite cheap when they come out with a replacement model. I've bought two mobos from MSI directly this way for about a third to a quarter of the price they were selling for just weeks earlier. One caveat, know what you are buying because once you get it, it's yours! Sometimes the lists contain real old stuff that has been on the shelves too long to be worthwhile.

  Thanks kukm4. I had Media Player Classic and didn't know that it had that cool function. It's amazing how much more I learn on this board about cool functionality than on what are considered "true" geek sites.

Where would I find that? ------------------------- You can find it at: C:\pagefile.sys But I'm not sure that Windows will let you defrag it, since it is almost constantly in use. You may have to find a third-party utility. I've actually never tried to defrag it. I just hacked my registry to dump it every time I shut down. It makes the shutdown time longer, but I don't have to worry what is lingering around if people that know what they are doing start to snoop around. I don't remember the Microsoft Knowledge Base article number off of the top of my head, but I'm sure that you can google it.

  I don't know much about AdBlock; but if the change in performance has started since installing it, I would suspect that maybe it should be uninstalled. As far as the Virtual Memory issue...if you have WinXP or Windows 2000, right-click your My Computer icon and choose "Properties". In the advanced settings, set your Virtual Memory to be 1.5 times the amount of your physical memory. Use this amount for the minimum and the maximum, and it will keep Windows from trying to change your swap space allocation size. (This is Microsoft's recommendation)

  If you can download the Ultimate Boot CD (from http://ultimatebootcd.com) it contains a tool that you can boot into and you can set the Administrator password to a blank. This has saved my butt on server systems where the passwords were not documented many times.

  I've owned and worked on IBM, HP,Compaq, Dell, Sony, and Toshiba. The only one that I would AVOID AT ALL COSTS is Toshiba, nothing but problems. The nice thing about Dell is that they offer the extended on-site warranty. If you want to run Linux, I would stick with IBM or HP...just my thoughts.

  I like trillian too. I got it to replace the other thirty freakin' chat clients that my kids had installed on their PC. Don't get half the virus/spyware problems that they had with AIM

  Personally, I like using the Opera browser for email too. You can use just one program to read your email, RSS feeds, and browse the web securely with multiple tabs.

  Sorry, I didn't know that it was against policy to ask about ripping. I do not want to violate any laws just listen to what I already own in my car. Actually, if the record label makes the audio for that DVD, I would buy it anyway.

  I haven't found a program that successfully lifts soundtracks from video DVDs to a sound file. I've purchased a concert video that I wanted to listen to in my car CD player. I used to work as an Audio/Video editor and can manipulate just about any kind of audio file under the sun. I just not have been able to find a program to rip the audio track from a DVD. Obviously, open source or freeware would be best. Any suggestions? I know that you guys have some big brains out there!

  Someone mentioned eMachines...for the love of God...DO NOT BUY ONE! You can get a Systemax system for a similar price from www.tigerdirect.com and spare yourself many headaches in the future. They are good little machines (in the beginning), but as technology progresses, most of them are not expandable. I recommend them to my "grandmother type" customers that won't need to upgrade in the future, but for the most part, they are disposable. Another place to check for good deals (believe it or not is the Wal-Mart website. If you budget to replace your PC every 2-3 years an eMachine is fine. If you like to upgrade a little here and a little there as your budget allows, buy something else.

  I've been using IE7 Beta 2 (cannot get beta 3 to install on anything, it keeps asking me to uninstall things that are already uninstalled and removed from the registry). The security seems waaaayyyy better in IE7 versus IE6. I personally can't stand Firefox either. I tend to use Opera or Dillo. I find Opera 9 to be the best for my needs. I can read email, newsgroups, RSS feeds, and browse all in the same tool.

  I've used ewido for about a month. I like it. It doesn't seem to have any big advantages over Ad-Aware or SpyBot Search & Destroy, as far as I can tell. But so far...so good.

In the state that I live, computer repair people are "supposed to" by law, report any porn involving children or animals found on a computer to authorities. I repair PCs on-site at homes for the majority of my business. I even have some repeat customers because I have taught them how to safely surf porn without messing up their computers.   My wife and I are enjoying porno together. She is interested in finding a movie that involves coercion, bordering on rape. We are having trouble finding such a movie. Does anyone have any suggestions??? We have spent hours and hours trying to find something. All we have found are cheezy bondage videos that don't have sex, or very violent type things. Please help.
