  Yeah, the news is 4:3 because it's made for TV... The typical news image of a guy talking at a desk, usually with a picture or graphic in the upper corner over his shoulder is just the best use of the space available... If all TV's were 16:9, the producers of the shows would set up their shots to use the space just as effectively. Really, the point is to view the work in the same ratio it was created in. The ratio is decided by the people who make the movie or TV show, mainly based on where it is intended to be seen. If something is made for TV or video, it is usually shot in 4:3... Each shot is framed to fit that shape. If it's made for theatrical release, they will probably shoot in 16:9 or wider, and the director will frame the images...

  By the way, very cool link Saki! This stuff is sort of a pet peeve of mine, and the images on the second page really do a great job of showing why I feel so strongly about it! :)

  Hehe... you beat me to it Saki... Just to clarify though, if a movie was originally shot in 16:9, those "annoying black bars" you speak of are not covering any of the picture, but actually allow you to see the full picture as it was intended to be seen. If you were to watch the same movie in full-screen on a standard TV, the sides would be cropped off, and you would miss out on seeing a good portion of the picture. The next time you go to a movie theater, notice that the shape of the screen is rectangular (16:9), while your television is closer to a square (4:3)... [The first number is width, the second is height.]

  I just got John Leslie's Voyeur #6 in the mail from WantedList... The first scene (Celine Deavoux) includes a projection TV in the background with another movie showing. The action on the screen is zoomed in on a few times, but they don't imitate what they see. I only watched the first two scenes so far... I must say that scene 2 with Tricia Devereaux is excellent... I hadn't seen Tricia perform before this, but I'll definately be checking out some of her other films now. :)

  Sir Noel Plum, I wasn't trying to express a personal opinion about Max or say this is something specific to his stuff... Mainly, I was trying to explain how someone might form those opinions. I used Max in my example in order to comment upon the example BisexualBritni had used. I agree with what you have to say about dual standards... When it comes to male performers, nobody seems to care about any of this stuff... Indeed the title of the thread specifies "18 year old females" rather than just 18 year olds in general. I consider someone 18 years old to be an adult, for what it's worth...   (I'm using your names here for the sake of simplicity.) The problem here is confusing sympathy with responsibility. If Shawna is 18 years or older and understands exactly what she is getting into, and what she is getting paid, then she is totally responsible for her actions. However, if she feels the need to complain about it afterwards, someone is bound to sympathize. Sure, if she made a decision on her own then she is the only one to blame. But is there any need to play the blame game here? Sympathy is a natural human emotion. She has every right to say what she wants, so long as she accurately states the facts.
