- Why don't JM Titles get reviewed? 4/15/2008 7:13:20 PM I really dont want to get into a pissing contest with JM. However they responded to this thread on their site that we are liars and that they offered us help. Lets set the record straight. JM did offer us *some* help, if you could call it that. Their offer of help was to give us free JM product (with certain strings attached). Keep in mind, this is the same product that we were under federal indictment for selling and we were facing prison sentences for selling it. Frankly, it made no sense to sell more of it. Furthermore one of our lawyers threatened to quit the case if we sold any JM product before trial. Under the circumstances, we couldnt even consider JMs proposal. It was a no brainer. When we explained this to JM he threw a tantrum an...
- Why don't JM Titles get reviewed? 4/14/2008 8:09:01 PM Weve kept quiet about this for a long time but Id like to clarify some misconceptions in this thread. JM NEVER offered Five Star any financial help whatsoever. The legal expenses in defending obscenity charges are staggering. In our case it ran into the multi $100K range. We simply didnt have those kind of resources and since we were charged with selling only JM movies we asked JM for help. All requests were denied and we ended up getting totally wiped out financially. People are free to draw their own conclusions about these facts. However, for many observers it seems that JM didnt stand behind a loyal retailer who sold their product. Instead JM got off on a technicality while we faced trial without any financial support from the producer...
- Problems With 5 Star DVD? 2/15/2008 5:00:29 PM I have to wonder if the feds had some particular axe to grind with 5 star. Anyone know? During the trial an FBI agent testified about how Five Star was selected. He said that his assignment was to find a seller of JM DVDs not located in California. Evidently they felt California's community standards were not suitable for this type of prosecution. The FBI agent did a Google search for JM DVDs. The 1st Google listing was JM Productions so he went to the next result. That was a company altready under investigation so he went to the third result which was Five Star (in Arizona). Some have found it interesting that the government made no effort whatsoever to determine the community standards of Arizona before (or after) they pressed charges. ...
- Problems With 5 Star DVD? 1/22/2008 12:43:26 AM backdoorman- What you are referring to is called comparable material. Typically in an obscenity case, the defense tries to demonstrate that the charged material is similar to other material, which is widely accepted in the community. Our lawyers attempted to introduce all sorts of comparable material purchased in Phoenix. This included movies purchased at adult stores, hotel rooms, record stores, lingerie stores, electronic stores and even at the local airport (owned and run buy the government). We also tried to show that the allegedly illegal movies could be viewed online at public and college libraries throughout Arizona. We even tried to show that at the same time the Department of Justice was bringing charges against us, the DOJ was su...
- Problems With 5 Star DVD? 1/8/2008 1:13:27 AM Im reluctant to post here because we still have a sentencing hearing next month however I wanted to make a few quick comments. The government invested a significant amount of resources to convict us. There were numerous FBI agents, an obscenity task force and several federal prosecutors all focused on putting us in prison and shutting down our company. Its frightening how powerful the government can be when they set their sights on someone. We fought like hell but the government has unlimited resources and ultimately they succeeded in financially crushing us and shutting down our business. Fortunately we had an outstanding legal team lead by Jeffrey Douglas. Without Mr. Douglas' brilliant legal work its almost certain that wed be facing pr...
- Five Star Questions 12/10/2003 4:04 PM R. Slicker- I completely understand your frustration. We would love to offer FedEx service to Australia but at this time we are unable to. I can assure you that this was not our decision and we are not discriminating against our Australian customers. Due to the nature of shipping adult products internationally, sometimes there are certain restrictions that must be dealt with. However we are hopeful that this situation will change soon. In the meantime we offer several other international shipping options. Ken Graham Five Star DVD

- Top Tips for International Shopping 11/25/2003 4:13 PM I'd like to clarify a few points regarding our international shipments. 1. ALL of our FedEx shipments are trackable. If you have any trouble tracking a package please contact our customer service department. 2. We use only FedEx International Priority, which is a premium service. It typically reaches major Canadian cities by 10:30 on the next business day and major European cities by 10:30 am in 2 business days. Overall, our international customers have been very pleased with the speed and reliability of this service and it's becoming quite popular. Shenton, I cant comment on your particular situation without knowing the specifics about your order. Keep in mind that Saturday and Sunday do not count as business days. Also remote cities c...

- gay customers being ripped-off - as usual! 8/8/2003 6:10 PM GaySatyr Although I empathize with you about the high cost of gay DVDs, the fact is that retailers have to pay significantly more (in general) for gay movies. That extra cost is passed on to the consumer. The reasons that studios charge more for gay DVDs have been discussed here before so I wont repeat them but it really comes down to economics. Gay DVDs sell fewer units, which means the costs of production have to be spread over fewer units- resulting in a higher cost per unit. You may be surprised to learn that our overall profit margin on gay DVDs is LOWER than on straight DVDs. When you consider that we have to pay more for gay discs, our profit margin is lower and they generally take longer to sell, you can see why I take exception...

- REF : New shipping at Five Star....... 5/13/2003 7:03 PM Weve addressed this topic many times in the past. Our policy is to declare the actual value on packages. Of course, some retailers falsify the value. However, we feel this is a very shortsighted approach that could result in being banned from shipping to certain countries. Certainly this isnt the most popular thing we do but remember we are only following the rules established by your country. Ken Graham Five Star DVD

- Annoying technical problems on fivestardvd site 1/2/2003 5:46 PM We apologize for any problems viewing our images. Recently we discovered that a pirate movie site was stealing a huge amount of bandwidth from us by linking directly to our box images. The result was that we received numerous complaints because our site performance slowed to a crawl. To protect our business and to maintain a speedy site our developers have implemented a new method to prevent others from linking directly to our images. The downside of the new image system is that its not compatible with IE 4.0 and older versions of Web TV. Were still fine tuning this new system but if youre having trouble viewing our images we recommend that you upgrade to a newer browser. Ken Graham Five Star DVD
