I ran the footage back a few times to make sure I was seeing it. He behaved as if he's an innocent man unjustly convicted. I think his expression and body language explains for me why child predators as a group, as opposed to other criminal, always re-offend given the opportunity. They don't seem to see their predatory behavior as wrong. As I say above, pederasts typically rationalize their predation of boys as a good, even noble, act of love and support. They style themselves as teachers of the young and givers of pleasure, encouragement, and guidance. Deranged as it is, it's an attit...

He was a grown man who decided to turn a blind eye to unspeakable acts. I hope Paterno spends an eternity in hell being sodomized with a red hot poker. It's clear that you can't or don't care to understand the difference between EXPLAINING behavior and FORGIVING it. Saying that Paterno's mistake was a result of the same "football is everything" culture at PSU that permitted Sandusky's pederasty to go on unchecked in no way mitigates Sandusky's guilt or Paterno's responsibility for failing to stop Sandusky. On the other hand, exposing and then fixing the attitudes that allowed Sandus...

There may be nothing that everyone in this forum can agree on -- except that we're all glad to see you back. My sincerest wish that all is and continues to be well with you and that you are happy.

You can't prosecute a dead man of course, but Paterno's considerable estate is subject to civil claims against it for one year after his death, and it's certain that that estate will be greatly reduced as a result.

Won't happen, of course. Penn State is the flagship school of a state university system. It is also an incredibly wealthy school with a huge and loyal alumni and many corporate connections. Note the post-Sandusky increase in donations cited above. It's doubtful that a single civil suit will make it to the courts. Penn State will settle those out of court and the public will never know for how much. As for JoePa, though his rep has been permanently sullied by this and he will forever be associated with Sandusky's crimes instead of his skills and decency as a coach, he WAS a man of integrity, generous and caring, who generally put the welfare of his players and his school above the welfare and profit of the football program. He made an egregi...

Nothing I've yet seen in the Sandusky story more succinctly shows the silly &quot;football as religion&quot; attitude of Penn State that ennabled and encouraged Sandusky's crimes than <link> .

Thanks for the clarifications. I still think, however, that the University's response, on the whole, amounts to, as I said, IN EFFECT, ignoring the allegations by neglecting to inform law enforcement, keeping Sanduskys behavior a private PSU matter, and thereby allowing the behavior to continue. This may be only a semantic difference, but what PSU did and did not do makes them culpable and they share responsibility for at least some of Sandusky's behavior. Though it perhaps doesnt make them legally liable, their sanctification of all things football provided an environment that allowed and encouraged Sandusky to molest boys with impunity.

Those few people fell down on the job for reasons that only they can understand. I don't think you can conclude that anyone fell down on the job. There are now at least four different non-matching versions of McQueary's story: what he told the grand jury; what he told friends in texts or e-mails after his grand jury testimony was publicized; what he testified to at the trial; and what he told a family friend (I think a physician) the night of the incident (this guy was a defense witness at the trial). Notably, the jury acquitted Sandusky on the charges related to McQueary's story. I don't...

As soon as anyone is convicted of a crime, let's just immediately send him/her to giullotine like they did in the old days. Actually not a bad idea at all. We should be executing far more criminals than we currently do. Murderers, rapists, armed robbers, child molesters & multiple offenders would be a great place to start. And..no more endless appeals looking for some micro-technicality for this human garbage. They should be executed by electric chair or hanging as soon as the judge pronounces sentence. Though the proof is overwhelming that capital punishment has never been a deterent of violence, I don't oppose the death penalty,...

Of course no one said so in those words but responding to my mention that pedophilia is a mental illness with a row of vomiting icons (vomiticons?) kind of leaves the impression that you dont agree. You can hardly want to study a disease that you dont even think exists. You wrote, &quot; There is REAL evil in this world and that evil needs to be met head on, not made excuses for.&quot; Characterizing pederasty as &quot;REAL <link> in this world&quot; is simplistic and precludes the possibility that it is anything but the perverse choice of someone simply BECAUSE it is immoral behavior. Not I nor anyone I'm aware of has suggested that Sandusky does not deserve any punishment he is given, or that ANYTHING -- his age or prior good acts, etc., justifies softening that punishment. Neither does the fact that pedophilia is a mental illness and not a choice absolve any one of total responsibility for indulging that illness by molesting a child. As I said, Sandusky's claim to any compassion or mercy or help for what he is ENDED the instant he touched a child. Understanding re...

^^ It's very comfortable and satisfying to believe that things are absolutely wrong, that people can be purely evil. It is particularly enjoyable, because the evil and the wrong that we find so satisfying are always necessarily, someone else's, and there's nothing like feeling superior to other people. The truth is that nothing is that simple. I think, for example, that one of Sandusky's victims has already run afoul of the law as a sexual predator. Not unusual, as I said. The comfortable and satisfying thing is to villify this sexual predator too, but a minute ago he was the innocent victim. Is he now to be condemned for sexual predation that is very likely the result of what Sandusky did to him and not really something he chose to do hims...

I guess your one of those people who feels Sandusky is &quot;misunderstood&quot; or &quot;has problems that need medical help not jail&quot;. No one asks to be a pedophlie. Pedophilia is a mental/sexual aberration, no more under the sufferers own volition than depression or schizophrenia. Most child molestors that are caught were victims of molestation themselves. So, yes, Sandusky HAD &quot;problems that need medical help not jail&quot;. Though, sadly, there is, as yet no reliable medical treatment for pedophilia, pedophiles can and do learn not to indulge the awful urges that, for them, will n...

I have &quot;bumped&quot; this topic (I THINK that's the term) only for what I think should be the final dismissal of this woman and everything she says. I have just looked at this book for the first time. I learned from this forum that I was &quot;quoted&quot; in it, and I admit that my sole less than obsessive curiosity about it was to see what the woman quoted of mine. I of course expected something that was lifted out of context to appear as if I agreed with or provided some evidence of her contentions about the unremitting evils of porn. That's not what I found, but what I did find didn't surprise me either. As far as I can recall in NONE of my posts did I say what she attributes to me. Searching this board has also failed to turn up a...
