  I was active duty Navy when the film came out and I thought it was an awesome flick. A great recruiting tool for the Navy. Sure, parts of it were corny, but overall it was a very entertaining film. I've probably watched it about 50 times since. I also lived about 5 minutes away from Miramar Naval Air Station, where Topgun school is located.

  When I was a child growing up in rural Wisconsin, we had a wall mounted version of the telephone on the Andy Griffith show. I remember being on a party line. Later we got a rotary phone which my parents still used up until 5 years ago.

  Good point. I've rarely seen a scene in which performers say the name of their partner or any term of endearment. It would be awkward in a gonzo type scene, but in a feature in which the two performers are in (supposed) relationship, it would be a great enhancement to the scene.
