When I move into a new city, I make it a mission to find that kind of place. I don't limit it to pizza, but you get the idea. You are right though, it is all just so convenient. Everything is at home - we spend all that time making money to make home comfortable. melpster - most my DVDs were bought used. Some weren't worth paying full price for, so why would I bother. Some certainly don't need my sales showing up on their stats (Serenity and Wonderfalls did need that, however). After a year has done by, or even less, and a store has stacks of a movie the prices get pretty low. And ...

RandomPrecision wrote: Another point. Society, as a whole, has gotten more frivolous. It's hard to make a movie about anything serious anymore. Reality shows and comedy stuff seems to prevail. That isn't it. Ecapism has always been a large part of movie and television (and stage shows/opera before that). Serious movies can do well if well written. But actors and Hollywood don't do serious because it isn't a star vehicle - and requires thinking on their part (for marketing, if nothing else). To reviewers, it is crap if it doesn't fit their point of view. And that is another flaw - serious movies don't need to push a point of view if they properly portray an event/point in time. Dramas - but are there any good dramatic actors out there? Some...

Well the "stars" are making tens of millions and the technical aspects of movies and music appear to be fine. So I would say that the money for better writers exist. Now whether or not the writers exist is a different matter. So I don't think it is the pirating that is a real factor in the decline in quality. I also think it is easy to idealize the products of the past, since the crap doesn't get revived and emphasized. I mean it wasn't all Bogie films back in the B&W days. They made some really horrid stuff. I think if somebody came out with stuff worth seeing, people would still go to a theater to watch. Now there is a lot of low quality stuff available for free. Heck, with the time limits imposed by You-Tube actualy work in fav...

IIRC there was somebody who found out because of the ex and there were fliers put around the neighborhood to try to force her out.

I don't think movies and music have their sales go down because everybody is getting pirated copies. I think the quality is so bad nobody would want most of it if it weren't free.

Is this still stuff with your ex? Did something happen there while I was gone? I'm a little personally interested in how the mind of the male ex thinks, since the husband of one of my fellow students thinks we are having an affair. We aren't and the things he takes as indications are funny. But you never know how a guy is going to act after he pulls the crazy jealous thing (which he has). I'm actually kind of offended that he thinks I would be caught so easily. I mean if we were having an affair, we wouldn't call each other (talking grammer and writing style, no less) and there wouldn't be e-mails. No need for all that when I see your wife several hours every week. But I can't take it too personally, he hasn't met me.

There is a reason you don't see national porn store chains. If they tried to make a switch, they could just shut down all their locations and save themselves some grief.
  • she'll never work for me again. ever! 11/5/2007 3:50:32 AM
I'm not in porn, but I think it would be stupid to book somebody without their knowing what you had in mind. It is, or should be, a business and in business you are much better off when everybody knows (and agreed beforehand) what is expected. Since pay probably changes depending on acts, how can you be sure of what your budget is without agreeing beforehand? And what reasonable expectation would you have that the porn star will do for you what she hasn't done before (or is just taking a break from something like Sasha Grey did with anal)? The producer should rather understand his own shortcomings rather than blaming others.

I don't know if closing locations is as bad as the writer makes it out to be - if you do it strategically. Demographics change, there are redundant locations, etc. The newspaper example isn't exactly right. That industry comes from a background of little competition in local markets (yes TV, but that did not have the ability to go in depth and only does up-to-the-minute reporting for "breaking stories") and 20%+ margins. If your model requires maintaining margins in excess of 20%, don't come whining. More importantly, that fact that it is possible to do that tells me that you can have high margins (say 7-10%) and actualy increase quality coverage and writing.
  • Lynda Carter or Veronika Zemanova 10/31/2007 2:01:16 AM
Pre-implant Veronika Zemanova, especially when younger. That tit-to-waist ratio was incredible. Nice legs and ass too, with a beautiful face. After the implants, the tits were not so magnificent.

Whatever your opinion of the result, that should never be a consideration of a court. Some of the Warren Court cases were based on shakey ground, IIRC, though the result helped liberalize society for the better.

  • Question about racism 8/13/2007 5:54:25 AM
Excuse me, as an Asian, I am well aware that I am stereotyped as scheming and sneaky, not directly violent. And better at technical tasks than management. Love that glass ceiling. I wasn't taught to hate, though some characteristics individuals have I was taught to distrust. I was also taught that anybody can make something of themselves if they try, so I shouldn't look down on others based on income. As proof, I can only offer that my father has had the liking and respect of those he has worked with, from janitor to doctor. Those higher up on that educational scale don't always pay much attention to those with less paper.
