Trump is already sticking his oar in, despite the international acceptance that no country interferes with the internal affairs of another. Obama slipped in this respect when he openly said that the UK should stay in the EU. Trump has recently stated that Boris Johnson should continue as PM, and that if the current EU deal goes through, the UK would find it difficult to get a trade deal with the US; in other words, leave with no deal. It's not quite as bad as the alleged influencing of the last US election by Russia, but it's early days yet.

Woo hoo, Brexit thread will now turn temporarily into General Election thread. We vote on 12 December. Questions are, how far will it turn into a quasi-referendum on Brexit? How far will it be settled on the usual domestic issues of NHS, economy, crime, environment, etc?

^ Yup, but we don't know for how long; in the meantime Boris wants to call an election for which he needs a two-thirds majority in the Commons. My prediction that we'd be out of the EU by the end of the year may have been premature - I should have asked for an extension!

^ Yeah, no one! It's a sensible move though; there should be some sort of vote on the deal early in the week and I think it might go through. I've changed my mind slightly - many of those who voted in favour of the Letwin amendment have said they will nevertheless vote for the deal. It's also more than likely that the EU will allow the further extension. I'm making a prediction - the UK will out of the EU by the end of 2019.

The frantic canvassing of MPs has started. The DUP, SNP and Lib Dems will all vote against the deal. Labour's official line is that it will also vote against. That leaves the PM trying to persuade enough Tory MP's and dissident Labour MPs to vote in favour. As Brummie says, it's going to be close with the current betting being on it being thrown out.

^It's one of the characteristics he shares with Trump. He's only interested in how he appears to the voters, so he says the UK will leave the EU on the 31st whatever. Then if it doesn't happen, he can point fingers at Parliament and the courts, implying that they are anti-democracy because the people of the UK voted to leave. Boris and Donald both make wild promises regardless of whether they can deliver

We rapidly approach the 31st with no solution in sight. Boris continues to say that the UK will leave on that date "no matter what" but he still has the Benn Act in his way; that states that if Parliament hasn't approved a deal by 19 October, or decides itself that the UK can leave with no deal, then the PM must seek a further extension. Given the latest rumblings coming out of Europe over the current proposed 'deal', this catch-22 must surely prevent us from leaving on the 31st.
