sorry, i didn't scroll down when I did the search to see the threads relating to the show, oops. as far as the Penn & Teller show, it's about as good as it sounds. They also did a show where they took 3 Feng Shui (sp?) "experts" and let them all re-design the same room without each other knowing. Of course, all of their rooms were completely different than one anothers. By the way, none the penis and breast enlargers worked. If you're really want to see the shows, I can tape a couple of weeks worth and send it to you. Of course, you'd have to destroy the tape because I do not have Showtime's permission etc.

the sad fact is that most new companies that are popping up to do dvd authoring or existing studios who are trying to do it all in house to save themselves a few bucks don't know what the fuck they're doing and as a result often pass master dvds to replicators that either haven't been qc'd at all or have been looked at half ass because for $8/hr you get what you pay for. if you have a problem with a particular title or studio in general, i would suggest emailing them directly so that they know that these problems don't go unnoticed by the general public. qc is a huge issue for the dvds i'm involved with. on the mainstream end of things, we even go so far as to outsource the qc to a company that does only that and then reports back to us. o...

pontus- with all due respect, I can't agree that doing adult scenes is a viable option for women who are making their way through college if they expect to get any kind of white collar job afterward. If you want to work in the adult industry or become a receptionist or service industry worker afterward, I would say it would be an easier pill to swallow, but if you'd like to be taken seriously in just about any field (excluding adult itself), it's more than likely that someone you work with will eventually find out what you've done and from that point you will be branded. tricia- out of curiosity, do you deliver DVD-Rs for authoring to the replicator or do you deliver on DLT? We have found that on some of the lower end clients that request DVD-R delivery that the finished, replicated product is more prone to have playback errors and glitches than product that we have delivered on DLT. And if they are delivered on DVD-R, some of the individual brands of DVD-R themselves tended to yield higher failure rates than others. I am also a believer that it depends upon the hardware you do the encoding with. In other words, a dvd made by a Spruce, Daiken or higher end Sonic system has less failure percentage than say a system using software based encoding, like iDVD, etc. Anyway, I'd be curious to know if you've exper...

the question should not be who's shooting in HD, the question should be who's finishing in HD? I've seen a few BTSs from Adam & Eve where their equipment says, "HDCAM," but this does not mean that they have edited and then mastered to HD. I'm guessing that while they shoot in HD, the cost of the equipment that it takes to carry that resolution through to the end of the process is probably too great for them to actually finish on the HD format. They probably do shoot it HD, but then bump it down to DigiBeta or BetaSP to do the actual editing and mastering. A shame, considering the fact that they do have camera masters in HD, but then maybe they could go back and recut with HD equipment later. Don't confuse widescreen with HD, yo...

slow motion and dissolving from one shot to the next are for the most part used as shortcuts in editing or a way to get a required length for a scene without looping the same clip 4 or 5 times. it is more often than not passed off as "a look" or "style" but it really is a means to cut sex footage together quickly instead of the more painstaking process of what's known as "match frame editing" which is what you see in mainstream cutting. it might be a bad NTSC to PAL conversion thing and since they handle color so differently it wouldn't surpise me if that had something to do with it. It also wouldn't surprise me if the guy who did the transfer was asleep at the wheel and it looks bad because he just wasn't paying attention or didn't care or both. i'm no expert, maybe a question for Bill Broderick
