  Doctors were more competent when they learned as apprentices, directly from practicing doctors. Now we have sickcare instead of healthcare, with vastly higher bills. Same goes for most advanced professions.

  The urban/rural conflict has been discussed before, but there are some different aspects coming up this time. Someone who has started a fire by rubbing two sticks together has the knowledge of making fire without manufactured products and fossil fuels. And some members here live in rural areas, such as the owners of this site.

  Living in a deep snow and ice area would cost more to drive if 4WD is needed, while people can still afford cars, and the road salt can permanently salt the rivers and lakes that are tapped for drinking water. Part of the transition to carless transportation is learning, using, and sometimes making what works for the conditions, instead of trying to make one car work for all conditions. Snowshoes, skis, horse-drawn wagons, boats, etc.

  I suppose now it's time to say something about bigotry against people who don't go to college. That is part of why Trump voters are pissed off and dismissive of everything they hear from the college crowd. Years ago, a degree was worth something. Now, college is less education and career prep and more permanent debt for the suckers with student loans.

  My expectation is neither. The wealth that keeps it swampy is now more illusion and debt than fact. There will be an evaporation then a giant forest fire. He was smart enough to read the situation and craft a winning campaign outside the established routine, so he must have some idea of the burning bag of dogshit his job will be.

  I could have been clearer in previous posts. When I say something will end soon, I usually mean that ending is already in progress and will take years. That counts as soon, since preventing such an end would take more years that have already passed. Sudden global changes are much rarer than the predictions of imminent doom.

  ^The massive overproduction of food with monocropped megafarming is one of those temporary conditions. It burns oil, destroys soil fertility, and depletes groundwater. Any one of those would be enough to end the practice, so all 3 guarantee it will end soon. Then we'll see how much food is really worth, and how much all those other occupations aren't.

  The metropolises are economic parasites. The vast populations of office workers, IT specialists, policy writers, economists, etc., do nothing for making useful products or growing food. Their incomes are counted as part of the economy but not what they take from the economy. The swollen metropolitan populations are dependent on temporary conditions. Their vast numbers of votes can't and won't change the expiration dates of megacity and suburban life. The electoral college and senate votes of 2 per state provide some balance for the remaining period that the US federal government still exists.

  We dodged a huge bullet in keeping Clinton out of office. She would have started another stupid war, when there's no margin left for stupid wars. Just that one point is enough to sing Hallelujah. Without even being inaugurated Trump is already killing new trade scams like TPP and renegotiating old scams such as NAFTA. We could have had all that without the racism and other bullshit, but the DNC screwed Bernie so now they can all GTFO.
