Congressional candidate Jessi Melton, a Republican from Boca Raton, Florida, has announced she is running on an "eradication of porn" platform. Melton's press release calls "for the eradication of one of the industries she believes is complicit in the largest-growing criminal enterprise in the world.” The War On Porn propaganda talking points Melton is using to campaign includes statements like "the overwhelming majority of adult film stars are victims of some form of sexual abuse, child molestation or human trafficking as a minor" and that adult performers "are victims, as are the consumers of the content itself." According to Melton's avowed strategy, her "first step will be to stop entertainers from being paid to perform in pornograph...
  • New California Bill Aimed at Adult Performers 2/20/2020 1:44:21 PM
The Adult Performers Actors Guild (APAG) has called for the resignation of the board of their own "mother union," the International Entertainment Adult Union (IEAU) following the revelation to XBIZ by the office of Assemblymember Cristina Garcia that the controversial California bill AB2389 introduced yesterday was "brought to them" by the IEAU. A "blindsided" Alana Evans, president of APAG, gave the following statement to XBIZ: We are shocked, disgusted and angry that our parent union did this without discussing it with APAG, without discussing it with the industry and without discussing it with stakeholders. At this time the board of the Adult Performers Actors Guild, including the president and the vice-president, calls for the entire...
  • New California Bill Aimed at Adult Performers 2/20/2020 11:17:09 AM
Yesterday, Assembly Person Cristina Garcia (D) introduced AB2389, Adult Performers: Employment Rights, to the California State Assembly. The bill would require all adult performers, from porn actors and actresses, clip creators, webcam models, and dancers, to pay to be licensed, complete a training program, and submit their fingerprints for criminal records checks. The bill requires all performers over the age of 21 to be licensed, leaving the concern that performers under 21 would be refused licenses and unable to work. The bill requires all adult companies to maintain copies of these licenses for a 3 year minimum. The bill would also require performers to keep their licenses with them at all times, and be subject to inspection at any time...

New California Bill Aimed at Adult Performers 'Patronizing, Ignorant! The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has released a statement in response to AB2389, a bill recently introduced in the California State Assembly that would require all adult performers in the state to undergo a criminal history check, among other measures. The trade organization's statement follows: A new bill in the California State Assembly would require every adult performer in the state to obtain a business license, undergo a criminal history check and be Livescan fingerprinted — along with a host of other measures supposedly aimed at protecting adult performers from trafficking and workplace harassment. AB2389 was introduced into session by Rep. Cristina Garcia and Rep...
  • CalOSHA Standards Board OKs Advisory Committee on 1/9/2020 10:58:17 PM
In a "Proposed Petition Decision" recently released by the California Occupational Safety and Health (CalOSHA) Standards Board, in response to a petition to the Board filed by an anonymous applicant on April 19, 2019, the Board has greenlit "an advisory committee of stakeholders, inclusive of Petitioner, to further discuss potential development of a proposal for safety order protections specific to the adult film industry." Among the rule changes sought by the petition are some quite familiar ones: 1) that producers provide "barriers, a term which in the past has been defined to include condoms, latex gloves and dental dams, "personal protective equipment," which has previously included goggles and face shields, "training," and "medical se...
  • GOP lawmakers demand William Barr prosecute porn 12/16/2019 3:51:05 PM
Four Republican members of Congress wrote a letter to Attorney General William Barr demanding he prioritize the prosecution of “obscene” pornography producers. Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, Missouri Rep. Vicky Hartzler, and Texas Rep. Brian Babin urged Barr to enforce U.S. obscenity laws and prosecute those who produce hardcore pornography in the letter obtained by National Review. They argued that increased accessibility to pornography via the internet was leading to violence against women and that it could harm children, as well. “The internet and other evolving technologies are fueling the explosion of obscene pornography by making it more accessible and visceral. This explosion in pornography coincides wit...
