  Hello. As a retailer, I have a different perspective.'because they can' is only part of the story. If you, as the consumer, continue to pay these prices, someone will always take advantage. If you are willing to wait, almost all titles will eventually come down in price. Producers initially attempt to recoup production/manufacturing costs by inflating the cost of new releases. It's a simple case of 'supply and demand' As titles get older and unsold quantities increase on retailers shelves, the price will almost always come down. There are many more variables involved, but the best advice is simply to wait. It'll 'trip your trigger' just as much 6-8 months from now as it would today. :) And, definately shop around.
