Yeah, I'm back, and it's good to be here! Sorry for the disappearing act: I was kidnapped by aliens, which was no fun at all, except for the anal probes... :)
  • FALCON ON DVD!!!!!!!!! 2/13/2001 7:46 PM
As you probably know, Falcon saves their uncensored VHS versions for direct mail-order only (which they send out in cheapie unmarked boxes. How nice: giving you the choice of decent packaging OR an uncut film...) Six months ago, I'd have sworn that Falcon would do the same thing on DVD. But in the meantime we've seen Titan and others raise the bar with plenty of fisting and W/S on retail DVD releases... With their slow-adoption policy toward DVDs, Falcon doesn't seem to be very concerned with market factors in general. Unfortunately, they've always been big enough to play by their own rules. If anyone finds out the details about this release PLEASE let us know -- as it will probably tell us a lot about the future of Falcon on DVD...
  • Queer As Folk - USA Uncensored Screeners 2/13/2001 7:27 PM
No access to the screeners here, sorry... As for buying the DVDs when they eventually come out: I'm very interested, but I'll definitely be renting them first... I haven't seen any of EITHER series (UK or USA) since I don't go in for the pay-TV channels... Seems like the UK series has an excellect buzz, but I've heard plenty of pros-and-cons about the US series. Still, I like Hal Sparks, and ANY mainstream series about a bunch gay guys has my strong interest -- just because it's still pretty rare and touches my life... As joeblow69 says, the cuts that were made to the first 6 episodes for their "R" rating were very slight: a word here, an extra second of ass there... The trimming got mentioned in the press only because it w...
  • RITES OF PASSAGE - REVIEW 9/12/2000 8:13 PM
I think I like this one a lot more than you did, pornophile... Maybe part of it is just Jason Behr, since I DID watch all of Roswell last season, and he's such an incredible hottie... But also, I tend to like the thriller/suspense genre--and I'm a bit tired of gay-coming-out or gay-as-social-problem dramas and comedies... This does have some some credibility-straining plot points. But I felt as forgiving of them as I would during any really engaging Cable- or DriveIn-B-movie--which is how this feels to me... In any case, it's worth a rental--IF you can find it. For me, it's worth an eventual purchase, as well...

It sounds terrific! Count me in! (I think Jim Steel would be a great idea, too!) Let's figure out what day of the week would work best for us all... Wednesdays are the traditional mainstream/straight CHAT night for ADT--maybe WE should meet the night before or the night after. How does Tuesday or Thursday sound? List your preferences here!
  • Where do you buy your gay themed dvds? 9/12/2000 7:47 PM
I'm not as aggressive about the pricing as I used to be; I don't have the patience for lots of clicking or coupon hunting anymore. Still, I tend to buy movies one or two at a time--from whoever I find has the best deal on those specific titles. I tend to purchase my gay-themed titles through the same outlets I get my general-interest movies. I usually check with TLA, Wolfe, netflix, Amazon and PopcornQ for basic info -- then I start with DVDPriceSearch... I buy from 800.com, Amazon, Empire, Express, and others. Recently I've used ABSound and DVDBoxOffice due to the good Canadian-to-US dollar exchange rates... I also view alot thru netflix rentals. Most of the titles you mention above I saw that way first, since there's no venue for small f...
  • Question on New Studio2000 Release: Sextrap 9/5/2000 10:40 PM
IF Studio 2000's deal with Atomic has already gone by the wayside, it'll be a big loss to consumers. Still, I wouldn't read too much into a single advance listing from a single retail outlet. Let's hope they've got it wrong! Sorry to hear about the New Meat series--I had hoped, like yourself, that Atomic was going to stick to the better stuff. Not a good sign. Anyone else know anything about these possible developments?
  • In The Flesh - REVIEW 9/5/2000 9:00 PM
I rented this the other day from netflix and want to second netguy's recommendation. It's a pretty solid no-budget romance thriller, in the gay/indie film category. It has some of the obvious flaws and limitations of a first time writer/director. It may strike some as cheesy or obvious. But for me the two lead performers, and the overall storyline, made up for many of the film's flaws. And let's give Wolfe Video a huge round of applause for single-handedly pressing and distributing MOST of the small gay films coming out on DVD! My two favorite current dramas from Wolfe: Lilies and Rites of Passage. I haven't compared their prices, but do yourself a favor, and check out their website--at LEAST for the selection! • Classic (pre-condom) DVDs? 8/24/2000 9:53 AM
Gayporn on DVD is still a very hit-and-miss affair, and there aren't very many "pre-condom classics" to choose from. In fact, the ONLY one I know about is Kansas City Trucking Company. KCTC was one of the first feature-length porn films to make it big, back in the days long before video, when porn films made all their money being shown in actual theaters... Unfortunately, it does not hold up too well by today's standards. I'd only recommend it for those who already love the movie and want a fresh, permanent copy. (I'll post a full review this weekend.) Anyone else know of any OTHER pre-condom films available on DVD?
  • Need Johan Paulik info 8/24/2000 9:40 AM
Hey, Rascal -- Welcome to the forum, and I wish I had better news for you! Johan, Lukas and all the other Bel-Ami guys are ONLY available in softcore at the moment, damnit! Bel-Ami has made NO official announcement about when they plan to jump on the DVD bandwagon. Same deal with the early Falcon International titles (before Bel-Ami went independant.) No word yet. There are tons of great hardcore Bel-Ami titles on VHS, of course, but those of us who want only DVDs are still waiting. Annoying, huh? At least you noticed that the PRIDE titles were softcore BEFORE buying them. I'm sure there are many others who only figure that out afterward, much to their dismay. GGRRRRR. • New To Porn 8/20/2000 6:36 PM
Stunt dicks? Yes, indeedee... Sometimes I even recognize them: "Hey, that's not so-and-so's cock, that's so-and-so!" And then there are the times when it's REALLY obvious: "Hey-- weren't his pubes blonde just a moment ago?"
  • Naked Celebs On DVD 8/20/2000 6:28 PM
It sure wasn't me! I love Kevin Bacon's dick! Ah well... Ken: You're right about Ewan McGregor -- he's NOT shy at all! He's also got an extended full frontal scene in Velvet Goldmine as well...
  • AdultGayDVD.com 8/10/2000 11:14 PM
I noticed AdultGayDVD a week or two ago-- DVDPriceSearch is running a button ad of theirs presently. It really surprised me! I agree with the others that there's nothing too special about their selection or price at first glance--but it may grow and improve, who knows... Gay-specific stores are great for content and reviews (like TLA VIDEO) but I still tend to make my purchases based on price-comparison, and they haven't been that competitive...
  • upcoming "Final Link" DVD. (and a rant) 8/5/2000 9:32 PM
Your fears are well founded! While I don't know about that specific release, it's a good bet that most videos will be released in a vanilla version only when they're pressed to DVD. It sucks! (And not in a good way...) Many studios delete all watersports and fisting action from any movie before selling it at regular retail outlets, either online or storefront. In part, this is to encourage their own direct mail-order business. But there's a larger concern. These scenes are much more likely to get the studio in legal trouble if they're sold in certain states or countries. Mail order gives them greater control over where the movies are sold, so they can protect their own asses. Sadly, with the economics of DVD so far, no studio is likely to...
  • New To Porn 8/5/2000 7:50 AM
Greetings, Jedsh03, and welcome. I agree with the others! Gay porn is outrageously expensive compared either straight porn or mainstream movies on DVD. Perhaps that's no surprise, since the same holds true for VHS. Still, the phrase "you get what you pay for" has never been truer. Most of the premium titles are worthy additions to any library. And only a few of the bargain titles are worth watching, let alone buying. If you haven't seen them already, check out the [url=466638]Gay DVD Recommendations [This message has been edited by alanbenson (edited August 05, 2000).]
  • How much effort will it take 7/27/2000 7:50 PM
God-- there are TONS of "pre-condom classics" I've love to see on DVD... Here's some: Splash Shots 1 & 2 Other Side of Aspen 1 & 2 Sailor In the Wild Blonds Do It Best Leo & Lance Inch By Inch Bigger Than Life Like A Horse Two Handfuls Heat In the Night Undercover Plunge! Anyone else?
  • The Vampire of Budapest - Review 7/25/2000 7:30 PM
Absolutely! I love this movie! I'll eventually get around to a full review myself (yeah, I've said that before!) -- but still, I just want to add my 2cents worth here. Out of the 6 Kristen Bjorn DVDs that I've seen, this ties for my favorite... The bathhouse orgy sequence is both completely HOT and stunningly filmed...
  • Categories for gay dvd price search 7/13/2000 12:47 PM
Right. I just misunderstood your question. Didn't mean to suggest that there's any real NEED to further catagorize anything... Thanks for all your work on this.
  • Categories for gay dvd price search 7/12/2000 10:25 PM
Take all this with a grain of salt, but: If I were trying to categorize gay porn into themes, I'd probably just label them Leather, General and Twink, and leave it at that. Maybe International too, though it gets really vague and hard to draw the line... I would definately include bi and she-male categories in the search engine--though they're not strictly gay, of course. And they're usually distributed by different companies. Point is, people interested in those topics might very well look in a gay search engine before any other kind... [This message has been edited by alanbenson (edited July 12, 2000).]
  • Those Songs... 7/12/2000 10:15 PM
Well, there's tons of queer and semi-queer music out there -- but there's no way to know what you consider Good, is there? I love old Bowie. Lots of his early 70's albums like Ziggy Startdust, Jean Genie, Diamond Dogs, etc... Besides being good classic rock it's ALL about boys having the hots for other boys... In the late 70s there was Tom Robinson Band, who started off singing gay protest songs and evolved into a popular straight-ahead rock act in a Springsteeny-but-British kind of way... Bronksi Beat was one of the best queer dance music acts of the 80's, with songs like "Smalltown Boy" and "Why" tearing up MTV and the dance charts with blatant queer messages... But my two favorite big hit songs are probably Lou Reed's "Take A Walk On...
