Initial Reaction: It’s pretty good.

Who Should Avoid It: Gay guys
The Technical Stuff
Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are okay. The audio is fairly well balanced, but there are parts which are a little muddy and a few minor background noises. The video is also okay. It’s normally nicely lit, but there are a few dark spots and a little bit of grain throughout the movie.
Music: The music has a soft feel and varies slightly in balance throughout the movie. It helps the movie almost the entire time.
Disc Complaints: The DVD authoring is very basic. To start with, there’s no time stamp, which means you’re limited to chapter breaks and scanning through most of the movie for navigating the DVD. The menus are also very rough, making you select each selection once to select it and then selecting it again to activate it. I hope these are just problems that are due to this being an early Alexander Institute release, but I’m not sure. There’s also a commercial for the Alexander Institute’s Intimate Loving series that you can’t skip past or even fast forward through. This always pisses me off, and I’m deducting a half point from the overall score because of it.
Menus: The menus are very simple. The both the main menu and the chapter menu clearly lay out the choices with a still behind them.
The FeatureAlthough we’re all different, there are many traits we all share. Here, Dr. Lonnie Barbach explores some of the common traits about women with relationships and sex. It mixes interviews with “women on the street” as well as showing a few segment to illustrate each subject.
Scene 1 - Sunset Thomas and a guy
Sunset’s man starts things off carrying cute blonde Sunset to the bed and laying her back. He breaks out a plate of fruit and sensually plays with it around her body before feeding her each piece. They play with slices of strawberries and peaches, bananas, and even try a little cloudy wine that looks like it probably comes from a plastic bottle with a screw-off top around Sunset’s nipples. He moves down to eat Sunset’s pussy after a bit and appears to give her a nice orgasm before coming back up to kiss her.
This is a very nice little scene. Romance it definitely put to the forefront here, but at the same time there’s some nice playfulness. It does a great job of showing that a little thought and stepping out of the normal routines can be a very good thing, and makes food play much more romantic than I’ve normally seen it portrayed. This is a nice way to start off the movie.
Scene 2 - Sharon Kane and a guy
After a chat with various women about ordinary things that can turn them on, things move to Sharon being surprised when she comes home to find her man cooking her dinner. After they eat a bit, Sharon moves to her man’s lap and feeds him his vegetables with a smile before their clothes magically disappear and move to the floor. Sharon goes from riding him cowgirl style on his lap to letting him fuck her missionary and doggie style on the table, and they finish up cuddling together on the table.
This is a great scene. The interview portion is nicely done, and shows that sometimes it’s the little things that matter the most while comfortably leading into the sex. The setup to the sex is fun and romantic, and although the sex is extremely softcore there’s so much passion between Sharon and her man that it was impossible for me to not like it. This is far from a graphic scene, but it’s so romantic and loving that it doesn’t need to be graphic. This is a very hot and very well done scene.
Scene 3 - A Dirty Blonde
An older dirty blonde starts out her scene reading a book on the bed wearing only a robe. She starts to softly masturbate as she reads, and eventually puts the book down so she can concentrate on her pussy. She’s embarrassed when her husband finds her, and they have a quick talk about how they both masturbate. She tells him that she wants him to watch so he knows what really turns her on. She talks him through what she’s doing, and then has him use his hand to pleasure her. He moves on to work on her pussy with his tongue until she has an orgasm, and then moves up to give her a hug and a kiss.
This is another very nice scene. It nicely gets across the point of masturbation not being a bad thing as well as the importance of communication. As usual it’s a very softcore scene, but it’s handled very nicely. This is a well done scene.
Scene 4 - A brunette and Steve Hatcher
After meeting her man Steve when he comes back from a business trip, a hot brunette lets him drive them home. On the way home she opens up her trenchcoat to give him the surprise of a peek at her sexy purple bra and panties. They make their way to a secluded spot overlooking the city and kiss passionately while stripping down. She gives Steve a little head before letting him climb on top and fuck her in the front seat. After they finish, she gives him a kiss and a “Welcome home, honey.”.
This is a scene that strikes me as working great on paper, but it just didn’t work well in reality. I love the idea in the scene, as it shows the importance of surprise, tease, and that sex shouldn’t just be limited to the bedroom. Unfortunately there’s basically no tease and the scene is so dark that about all you can see is the chick’s white shoes near the dashboard through most of the scene. This scene just didn’t work.
Scene 5 - An auburn haired woman and a bearded brunette guy
While admiring the view near the Hollywood sign, a guy and gal decide to get it on. They kiss passionately before he reaches up under her skirt. He moves down to lick her from behind, and then waits as they hear another couple come near. As soon as the couple walks away he fucks her from behind before the scene quickly cuts to a kiss.
This is an okay scene. Once again there’s a great idea to the scene with the public sex, and it’s handled pretty well. The biggest problem here is that the scene feels chopped apart with the poor edit going from the public sex to the kiss. It’s a pretty good scene, but it left me feeling that it could have been even better with another thirty seconds to wrap things up before the kiss.
Scene 6 - An auburn haired woman and a bearded brunette guy
The couple from the last scene returns to get it on in the bedroom. She rolls on top to tease him with her pussy lips as he plays with her tempting nipples. She moves up for a moustache ride before sliding back to ride his cock. Finally, they finish it up with an “internal” pop.
This is a nice final scene. It does a good job giving the couple a bit of completion for their fucking, and once again they have very nice chemistry. I love the girl having a bit of control in the scene and the pace to the scene works nicely as well. This is a pretty good scene.
What Women Want is a nicely done educational release. It does a very nice job blending interviews and scenes with the subjects Dr. Barbach discusses. It does a great job showing that there are no certainties when it comes to sex and relationships, but at the same time lays out some good guidelines. Most importantly, it points out the importance of communication, as if you’re willing to listen to your lover they’ll normally let you know how to please them. As for complaints, although the scenes are nicely done, they don’t always fit the subject that was being covered too well, or maybe it’s just that the theme or message for the scene isn’t given too clearly. What Women Want lays down some nice guidelines for guys who feel that they need a little help or who just want more ideas on how they might be able to better please their woman.
The Extra StuffThere’s plenty of sexuality information, which includes both a long question and answer section with Dr. Patti Britton covering many areas of sex as well as general sexuality information. A trailer is included for the Intimate Loving series which this DVD is a part of. There’s also trailers for the Soulmates series, Sex, Love, and Everything Else, and Sexual Healing. Finally, there’s a bonus scene.
Bonus Scene - Charlie and Dante
The bonus scene comes from Sex Around the House. Charlie and Dante head to the laundry room to have a little fun with Charlie wanting to have some fun and Dante being a little reluctant. They play around with a feather duster and try some clothes pins before Dante moves down to eat Charlie. They play with the duster a little as he eats her, and then fuck missionary style on the drying. Finally, they finish things with an “internal pop”.
This is a nice little scene. The chemistry between Charlie and Dante is just as good as one would hope for with a real life couple, and there’s a great playful feeling throughout the entire scene. I love the clothespin play in the laundryroom, and the scene moves along at a nice pace. This is a fun and hot scene.
The Down -n- Dirty Sex Stuff
Themes: Straight, instructional, food play, masturbation, and public sex
Raincoat Factor: Medium
Condom Usage: None
The Bottom Line:Currently, many of the Alexander Institute DVDs can be found online for between about $11 and $22, with most stores offering them near the top end. Rent this one first. It has a few good ideas, but I really don’t know how much replay value this one’s going to have. The technical aspects are a little weak, but there is a bit of effort put into the extras. This is a pretty good DVD.
Note to Alexander Institute: You have a very good start on things with your extras and a nice feature. Now polish things up a little. Full credits would be very nice as would a time stamp to let the viewer go directly to where ever they want in the movie. Finally, please kill the forced commercials in front of the main menu and find somebody to do a decent menu system.
