The Little Details

Running Time: 28 min.

Production Date: 2003

Director: None listed

Cast: Animated

The Short Story

Initial Expectations: I’ve had mixed luck out of NuTech’s anime releases, and I’m not expecting this to be one of the enjoyable ones.

Initial Reaction: Ironically, it’s surprisingly tender and worth talking about.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting a bit of romance and a few monsters

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting the usual rape, drugs, and other icky things that normally seem to accompany these movies.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is normally clear and well balanced. The video is also clear, but seems a little more primitive than a lot of the other anime features I’ve seen.

Music: The music is soft and tender, and goes a long way in helping set the mood for the scenes.

Menus: The main menu is long, and almost acts as a trailer for the feature before the selections come up. The chapter menu is pretty standard and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a title for the scene.

The Feature

For years there was a balance between the humans in the village and a clan of vampires who lived in the castle above it. The vampires fed on them gradually, and the humans didn’t know they were there for food. That all changed when one of the women in the village found out her lover was a vamp and killed him after they made love. This causes war between the humans and the vampires, which greatly complicates the feelings between human Shou and his vampire lover Luticia.

The sex starts off between Rick, a vampire, and Elena, a young woman. They kiss and she lets him fondle her before she sucks his cock. She rides him cowgirl style before it quickly shifts to Rick leaving. Rick returns a few nights later to give Elena a little oral action and to finger her ass before she sucks and tit-fucks her. He fucks her in a couple positions, and she sees him baring his teeth. He can’t bring himself to feed on her, but she doesn’t have the same problem and slays him before he can leave. There’s also a little action in the hay loft between another vamp and a human before Shou and Luticia fainlly consummate their love. Shou warms his vampire lover up with his tongue and fingers before sliding it in as she lays below him. Once again, there isn’t a pop shot, but Luticia does seem to have a strong orgasm.

The sex throughout the feature is done pretty well. There’s some nice caring in each of the scenes, and I never had the feeling like the sex wasn’t consensual or that it was with underage people, which is only too common in this type of feature. Although it moved along nicely, it also lacked for me because every one of the scenes felt cut off without having the pop shot at the end. I’m not saying that they needed to show some kind of gooey facial, but at least an internal pop at the end of the scenes would have been nice!

Tragic Silence is far from perfect, but still very likeable. The story has some nice feeling to it, as does the sex. You can see things develop nicely between the characters, and the sex feels like it’s a part of things rather than something that’s wedged between scenes to make it an adult feature. It’s a bit jumpy at times, especially towards the end, but feels like a very nice start towards something bigger. The main menu states that this is the first part of Tragic Silence, but nothing on the box makes it sound that way. This leaves me a little confused, as well as a little hopeful. There’s a lot of crappy hentai out there, and this is one of the best I’ve seen for a first episode. It reaches out beyond the limits of regular porn very well, and even does so in a tasteful way. Tragic Silence is a nicely done anime feature that’s worth checking out.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts about two and a half minutes with about six seconds per good looking full screen photo. In a nice blunder, most of the photos look like they come from NuTech’s Hika Ryoujoku: The Lust of Shame rather than Tragic Silence, as they’re advertised. There’s also weblinks and the B-side of the DVD is filled with trailers for other NuTech anime releases.

The Down -n- Dirty Sex Stuff

Themes: Anime, anal, titty fucking, and human - vampire action

Raincoat Factor: Medium

Condom Usage: None needed

The Bottom Line:

Currently, most NuTech Anime DVDs can be found online for between $11 and $25 with most stores offering them for under $15. Although short, I liked this one well enough to recommend it if you can find it at the low end. The story is interesting and the sex, although lacking, has a nice feeling to it. There isn’t anything worth mentioning for extras, and the technical aspects are pretty average.

Note to NuTech: I hope you continue this series, and hope just as much that you put the entire series on one affordable DVD like your competition does!
