Feature

My favorite studio these days is Girlfriends Films, which specializes in high quality lesbian-themed stories. I've been hoping they'd branch into my other favorite genre, female masturbation, so when I saw this title come up I pounced on it.

Actually, this is a JuicyPinkBox movie, and GF is just the distributor. The quality is still there, but it's not at all what I expected.

This a collection of fourteen scenes with seven performers, and the situation is the same. The set is a empty except for a lounge chair; the perfomer enters, sits back, and begins talking with an off camera therapist about "what's been going on this week." The stories about lesbians, or at least women exploring lesbian experiences, and their sex lives. During the talk, they disrobe and masturbate.

That's as good a scenario as any I've seen, but I personally don't like the execution. The videography is that always-moving camera, cut cut cut stuff that's effective for teasers and trailers but agonizing for the regular scene. I don't like real raunch where the girl tries to gape and show off her cervix, but this cut cut cut stuff is just a tease; it feels like you're three people deep in a milling crowd and all you get are glimpses. Fine on a trailer, but sucks here. And it's every scene.

From the box art: "Jincey Lumpkin, esq., is the founder and Chief Sexy Officer of Juicy Pink Box. She is a lesbian, a former lawyer, and a lover of breasts." She must love bee-sting boobs, because nobody here is over a b-cup and they all skew toward the As. I have nothing against small-breasted women in masturbation videos, but I like busty ones and I prefer a mix. They don't all have to be D-cups, but out of seven girls, you can't have two? The girls are all attractive but boob-hounds won't find this video very interesting.

The video itself is clean and clear and colorful. I found the audio annoying; there's a hollow-room sound that makes the perfomers' voices sound thin and far away, as if they're recording this in a barn. There's some ambient music in the background that's intersting in small doses but becomes chinese water torture after awhile. Like the story telling here, it's a good idea that just doesn't work quite right.

Bonus material

"Special Features" is actually a collection of ads for other titles in the GF catalog. Promos appear to be ads for a title series (like "Pin-Up Girls") and Trailers are for specific volumes, like "Pin-Up Girls 5".

So the only real "bonus" here is the three-part Behind The Scenes. The first is with the crew (6 1/2 minutes), talking with the director of photography, Alvaro, the gaffer, and Ani, the stylist, and they talk a bit about the technical aspects of the film.

Part two is with Jiney Lumpkin (7 minutes, who discusses the concepts and storylines that she's trying to go for. She's surprisingly articulate and great on-camera—I wish this had worked into the feature somehow.

Part three is with performer Ryan (1 1/2 minutes) brings up "porno logic." ;)

So How About It?

The masturbation here is figurative, going on behind the camera and in the editing room; look ma, we made art! That's fine, but it isn't erotic, it's just a long, extended tease. Michael Ninn, who also works in the video-as-art area of female masturbation, does a far better job. I think GF does a better job of sex in an artful yet explicit and gratifying way. I don't mind the high concept, but I think the execution is wanting.
