Initial Expectations: Michael Raven is one of my favorite directors, so I have high hopes for this feature even though Sin City has put out some pretty lackluster DVDs.
Initial Reaction: It’s a pretty good raincoater feature, but not as good as some of Raven’s other works.
Who Should Watch It : Raincoaters and people who like slightly nastier sex
Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who thinks VCA and Vivid are a little too nasty or who want a plot with their porn.
Audio /Video Quality: The audio is normally clear and well balanced. There’s a few places where it sounds like there might be people talking in the background, but instead it was some of the music. The video has a little grain, but is still a bit better than VHS. There’s some decent lighting and only a few shadows. There are a few of the shakes associated with gonzo porn, but those seem to be intentional to set a lower budget mood at the start of the feature.
Music: The music is fairly standard, and normally nicely balanced with the rest of the audio.
Disc Problems / Complaints: This is one of Sin City’s earlier DVDs, which means it has some annoying problems. Sin City has mandatory commercials for phone sex and their wed site at the beginning. I can respect that some people want to see the phone sex commercials and that Sin City is probably very proud of their web site, but it really ticks me off to have to watch it. Although I don’t like having any commercials at the start of a DVD, I could live with it a lot more if they could be skipped. Then when you finally get to the feature, you learn that it doesn’t have any time stamp. This is one of my biggest pet peeves, and thankfully something I think Sin City has corrected on their more recent DVDs. Also, the feature is divided into two sections on the DVD, and once you start the second section, you can’t scan or skip backwards. This also has thankfully been corrected, but was a very common plague on Sin City’s early DVDs.
Menus: The main menu is very basic, and doesn’t even have any animation outside of a few clips in the selections. The chapter menu is very basic, allowing you to choose a scene based on a small clip of the scene and a scene number.
The Feature: Street Meat is Michael Raven’s gonzo sex style series. There’s no plot, just a bunch of unconnected sex scenes that’s listed as a six pack of strokes with no fast forwarding necessary in the opening credits. The closest thing to a plot is seeing a flushing toilet and the camera being walked around the house in a porn hunt.
Teri Starr, a cute blonde, starts things off lying on a bed between Chris Cannon and J. J. Michaels with all of them stroking it a bit. She moves away from J. J., which I can’t blame him for since he has an evil look in his eye that makes a state trooper who doesn’t have a chance of making his speeding tickets quota look like Mother Theresa. Possibly out of fear of reprisal, Teri works her way over to give J. J. a little oral greeting before letting him warm up her pussy with his tongue and fingers. Chris takes the first poke at Teri’s pussy as she lies on her back, and then lets J. J. take his stab at things from behind. Teri moves on to take both guys in her ass, starting out with J. It’s hot with some great energy, and even has some decent chemistry.

They also make their way through most of the common positions before Allysin finishes things with a nice double facial. I have a feeling this one wasn’t an easy scene to capture, as it has a ton of breaks in the scene where it zooms out and back in. This effect almost completely ruined the scene for me, and didn’t ever really give the scene a chance to build anything up.
Pat Myne returns for the next scene to help Jack Hammer, who as usual looks like he was somebody’s prison bitch due to all his tattoos, take on Gwen Summers. Not surprisingly, Gwen starts squealing almost immediately, as Pat works on her pussy and asshole from behind. I’m not sure if she got a voice coach after this scene or what, but it made her much more tolerable than some of her more recent scenes. Gwen puts some very nice effort into the scene, but it seems a little off balance with Jack just their as eye candy. It’s eye candy that really needs a wrapper, such as a hefty bag, and is part of what holds this scene back from working completely.
Lexington Steele takes on Blair Segal at Mila’s insistence in the next scene. Blair starts out with Lex driving his cock almost all the way into her pussy while Mila swears loudly and slaps Lex. Mila has never really done anything for me other than make the blood rush away from the entire lower half of my body, and she’s no different here. The penultimate scene features Alexandra Nice and Inari Vachs, two ladies who rarely disappoint, with T. T. Boy, who normally seems like a restraining order waiting to happen. Jill Kelly and Gina Ryder take on Mark Davis to finish off this episode of Street Meat. They start out with some great oral sex. Even more surprising was that it felt like there was very little editing done to the scene overall. It had a very smooth flow to it, which I think was a big part of what raised it over the previous scene.
Street Meat was one of Michael Raven’s early efforts into all sex features, long before he came out with features such as Blondes. It’s a good feature, but I thought fairly inconsistent. I admit that some, if not most, of the problems I had were purely personal tastes, such as Mila, but the editing in Allysin Chayne’s scene and the lopsidedness of Gwen Summers’ scene also held things back for me. Raven is well known for being very artistic, and it doesn’t come out in these scenes. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, since this isn’t supposed to be about artistic sex. This is about pussies and asses getting pounded with wild sex. Thankfully, the last couple scenes provided as much hot scene as some entire movies, and raise the entire movie a bit above average. Street Meat might be a little inconsistent, but the good stuff is good enough that you should make sure and check it out if it sounds like it might be your kind of porn.
Extras: The photo gallery includes about three dozen full screen photos that look a little blurry and almost as if they were taken directly from the feature. Trailers are included for Eighteen and Awesome, Eighteen and Anxious, and the first four Just 18 features. Of course, there’s also web site and phone sex commercials that you didn’t have a choice whether you were going to watch at the start or not. If you choose to watch them again from the main menu you don’t have an option to skip ahead to the menu quickly. You have to watch the entire thing again.

Overall: Currently, Street Meat can be found online from about $9 to $24 with a couple stores offering it for under $15. Although a few of the scenes lack, it’s worth the price just for the last two scenes. The transfer is a little above VHS, but not a lot, and unfortunately the extras are badly lacking.
Note to Sin City: I realize this is one of your earlier DVDs, and it’s nice to see that you have improved over time. I hope you continue to bring out Michael Raven’s works on DVD, since he’s one of the most creative and versatile directors out there.
