Review:
“Showdown” is a mid-80s, western-themed production from director Henri Pachard and Caballero that, despite many promising moments, never really follows through strongly enough to be worthwhile. Plot-wise, Sharon Mitchell plays the part of a madam who’s been run out of town by an overzealous sheriff (Henri Pachard; non-sex). Instead of giving up on plying her illicit trade, she’s moved her ladies out into the desert to start up a dude ranch / bordello combination. There, she’s pestered by the sheriff and his buddy (Joey Silvera)—who’s the estranged boyfriend of Gina Carrera (one of the girls), she picks up a handful of travelers (Jamie Gillis, Herschel Savage, and Mike Horner) who quickly become customers, and she even has to pound it out with a judge (Nick Random) to keep everything going. Likewise, the cast in this one represents an awesome array of classic stars…all in top form, and the sets and setups for the sex are all fun and dripping with those nostalgic overtones that simply scream “classic!”. Indeed, everything is there to make this one a winner…except for the follow-through. The scenes end up being too short and too unvaried, and the plot just never really fully takes off. It feels as though every time the action starts to pick up—and it’s going to start rocking—somebody pulls the plug. Talk about a buzz—and boner—killer. It’s a shame, really, as the premise behind this flick has so much potential, as do its various sequences. It’s almost as if someone had a good idea, assembled an awesome cast, and then said, “Fuck it. Let’s just do whatever.” All of this considered, of course, this film really isn’t recommendable, even for its nostalgic value, as there are plenty of better ones out there for these purposes, too.

In terms of the sex, the first few scenes are individually short and more or less interspersed within one another. Two of them—those that kick off first—take place back at the ranch, while another—the last to get going—occurs in the waiting room of a judge’s office. Initially, Gina Carrera eats out Nina Hartley indoors at the ranch, and Nina reciprocates by fucking Gina with a strap-on. They’re both working girls. Outside in a pen, fellow prostitutes Pattie Petite and Shana McCullough get down and dirty with some nude mud-wrestling and -frolicking after a bit of tomfoolery gone awry. (This one could have been so good...) Shortly thereafter, Sharon Mitchell is paired up with the town’s judge, Nick Random, for a boy-girl romp. Mitch is tight and in top form here, and she blows and rides the judge to a pop out of a reverse-cowgirl position. His load gets all over his own hand, as well as her bush and inner-thighs. Unfortunately, these scenes just aren't fleshed out well.

In Scene Four, Patti Petite meets up with Herschel Savage in the horse barn and gives him the type of riding lessons that he’s really after. Patti’s outfit, consisting of a red scarf about the neck and furry chaps, is really something else...and things heat up fairly quickly. She blows him, then rides him in reverse-cowgirl, and finally sucks and strokes him to a gooey mess in her mouth. Hot stuff...the best scene of the bunch!

Scene Five brings together Shanna McCullough and Jamie Gillis out on a hammock after a long day of fun on the ranch. After a slow start, the pair gets down to business, and Jamie gets his dick in her. He slips it to her in a few positions, and while the hammock does provide for an interesting visual here and there, it mostly limits the action. Ultimately, Jamie unloads on Shanna’s bum out of doggie. This one’s okay.

In Scene Six, Gina Carrera and Nina Hartley manage to seduce the nerd of the group of guys, Mike Horner, in a horse stall. Finally breaking free of his reserved exterior, Mike gets it on with Nina (oral and vaginal), as Gina masturbates and then lets Nina eat her. Failing to have a pop-shot, this one never really gets fully off of the ground…which is too bad because all of the essential elements that would normally go into the making of a good scene are present. The follow-through just isn’t there.

Scene Seven has Gina Carrera finding solace in the arms of her madam, Sharon Mitchell, as her estranged boyfriend (Joey Silvera) pleads with her from outside to return home. After Gina eats Mitch for a bit, she’s swayed by Silvera’s calls and the scene ends early.

Scene Eight brings Gina and Joey back together again for a conciliatory fuck out by some rocks. Makeup sex is apparently the best, as the two go at it in an oral and vaginal romp that involves a bit of a blowjob by Gina and a missionary position, before closing out with a load all over her tummy. Again, there could have been more to this one.

Bonus-wise, the offerings are paltry and buried in the menu system…which is standard for releases of this type. There’s a brief slideshow of “Photos”, a “Catalog” option that plays through box-cover shots, a “Website” ad, and some sexy “Phone Sex” ads. Having seen these same ads over and over again, they’re still hot...and I would love to know which movie they came from.

In all, the false-starts and lack of follow-through pretty much kill what otherwise would have been a strong, classic production. As such, even with the players involved, I can’t recommend this title in good conscience.
