Initial Expectations: I’m not a big rap fan, but so far this type of feature has done pretty well. I’m curious about this one.

Initial Reaction: As a porno it really lacks, but as an adult rap music movie it’s pretty well done.

Who Should Watch It : Fans of rap music and anybody who thinks women should be called bitches and hoes

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting sex scenes that aren’t interrupted or interviews where you can understand everything the people are saying

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is normally clear and well balanced. There’s some background noises, but that fits right in with the style of the feature. The video has a little grain, but not much. The lighting varies from scene to scene and there’s a little of the video that appears slightly blurry.

Music: The music has a heavy R&B and rap feel, and if this surprises you I’m guessing you live in Florida and hope you bring somebody with to help you vote next time. It varies a bit but is normally very well balanced with the rest of the audio, and works very well for the feature.

Menus: The main menu is nicely done and gives a good first impression. The chapter menu, however, seems pretty generic and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number rather than letting you choose it by the musicians or stars in each scene.

The Feature: Sex and the Studio blends porn with a MTV style music show. There’s plenty of interviews with rap and R&B stars set around a big party, clubs, and sex competition where most everybody’s nearly completely wasted with the sex scenes thrown in. The interviews aren’t minor interviews either. There’s heavy hitters like Snoop Dogg, who’s no stranger around the porn world after putting out a couple movies of his own, Warren G., and Redman. There isn’t anything close to a plot here, but there’s a general feeling or mood about the scene that permeates the entire feature.

Tony Eveready gets some from Caramel, a good looking black chick, in the first scene. She takes his cock all the way into her throat by the pool before heading inside for him to reciprocate a little. He tongues her twat and fingers her ass to get her going. After a bit of interviews Felli Fel introduces the scene. Tony bangs Caramel from behind on a couch as a bunch of people hang out around them. They move on through a bit of missionary and an energetic reverse pile driver. Tony finally pulls out to pop down on Caramel’s face.

This is a pretty good scene, but not great. It takes a while to get started, and cutting away from the sex to go to a bit of talking with people who are obviously under at least one influence doesn’t do much to build the heat in a scene. Tony and Caramel have some good energy getting into it, but I have some major doubts about the pop shot. You never see Tony blast Caramel. Instead you see him jerking it above her face and then cut to a little creaminess around her mouth. The middle of the scene is pretty good, but the beginning and end of it sucks.

Tiffany Mason takes on Mr. Marcus in a studio in the second scene. After a little flirting back and forth Tiffany drops to her knees in front of a couch and starts mouthing Marcus’ manhood, including taking him into her throat. She lets Marcus give it to her from behind before riding him in both cowgirl styles and letting him stick it to her missionary style while she reaches back to spank him. Tiffany goes back to giving Marcus a little head while looking at the guy at the controls before going back to letting Marcus fuck her. He takes Tiffany in a couple more positions before decorating her face and nailing her square in the eye with his dick droppings.

This is a pretty good scene. I love Tiffany’s reactions to having people watch her in the scene, and she and Marcus have great chemistry in the scene. Tiffany also puts forward some great energy through the scene to help make this a winner! The biggest problem with the scene is that it’s cut together with Lacey DuValle taking on Suave.

Lacey DuValle takes on Suave, a large guy who looks like he might be black but has his long hair braided like an Indian backstage. She drops to her knees and gives him some nice licking and sucking while playing with her pussy a little and finishes things up taking a nice facial that drips down to her nicely natural tits.

This is a pretty good oral scene. Suave isn’t that attractive of a guy so I’m really happy that this is limited to an oral scene, but he can sure put out a load. Lacey does a very good job working her mouth around his meat, and makes this a worthwhile scene. The biggest problem with the scene is that it’s cut together with the previous scene with Tiffany and Marcus. This almost always holds back the heat on scenes for me, and it’s no different here. I have no doubt that I would have enjoyed this scene much more if I had watched it by itself.

India takes on April and Nyomi Arman in the next scene after the guys decide not to show up. The girls start out like an Oreo, sticking white girl April between them as a creamy center, before moving around so everybody can give and receive. After a bit they break out a couple dildos and finally finish things with a kiss.

This is a hot scene! There’s great chemistry among the girls and nobody every feels left out of the scene. They keep things moving very nicely and the toys feel natural in the scene rather than being forced in. My only complaint about this scene is that it feels like it could have went much longer even coming to a natural feeling finish here.

Finally there’s the Sex Olympics with Chloe Black, Daisy Dukes, Dia Diva, Divina, Domineko, Lucky Starr, and Sledge Hammer. The girls compete in events such as lap dancing and blowjobs. The girls go up two at a time and do their duty while other black women jiggle their asses from a hot tub next to the stage.

This is a different way to end the movie, and I can’t say that it really worked for me. It seems very quick and doesn’t quite fit into the overall movie. Nothing seemed to build to this moment and the clips of the girls on stage were so short that they never built up any heat for me.

There are two very different ways to look at Sex and the Studio. First is looking at it as a porno, which is how I’ve rated it. As a porno, Sex and the Studio falls short. The scenes as short and very far apart. They’re also interrupted by things such as wasted rappers and other scenes. The only scene that really stood out to me was the threesome between April, India, and Nyomi Arman, which was also the only scene that was left to be its own scene. I was also disappointed that stars such as Venus and Envy Mi, both of whom have really been impressing me lately, were just here in cameos. As a porno, Sex and the Studio comes up short.

The other way to look at Sex and the Studio is as an adult rap music movie. This way I’m probably one of the worst people out there to judge it as I’d rather watch David Boreanaz sing Barry Manilow songs than listen to any of the stars here and think most of them could learn a thing or two about songwriting from George Strait. That said, I can see this being a great success as an adult rap music movie. Humpty Hump’s interviews with the random people around the clubs are a lot of fun, and India and the other girls’ interviews of the rap stars are also nicely done. I was more than a little turned off by seeing that many of them could barely speak English with how wasted and or uneducated most of them appeared, but I don’t think this is a problem for the average rap fan. Taking Sex and the Studio as an adult rap music movie, the interviews don’t interfere as much, and in many ways it reminds me of watching some of the Spring Break shows around MTV as I quickly flipped past them. If you’re going into Sex and the Studio this way, it’s an amazing movie as well as an amazing DVD that’s going to be hard to beat.

Extras: Metro has went all out for the extras here. There’s the usual extras you expect plus much, much more. The photo gallery lasts about four and a quarter minutes with about ten seconds per very nice looking snapshot. There’s also a music video for Putcha Thang on Me featuring Numskull, Money B., and Clee that looks straight out of MTV. Well, maybe that should be straight out of MTV2 since they play videos. There are also plenty of featurettes, interviews, and some extra footage.

There are also plenty of interviews, thirteen to be exact which last nearly forty minutes. Redman interviews Obsession and Envy-Mi for nearly ten minutes about the industry, stars, and sex in front of the camera and in their personal life. Obsession interviews Mystic for about five and a half minutes about the Sex Olympics and her sex life and how it’s changed. Soopafly takes about a minute and a quarter to talk with India about people he’d have sex with and the craziest place he’s done it. The Poetess takes three minutes with Money B to talk about the acts they showcase, fucking the acts, and makes a few sex picks. Humpty Hump and Tracey talk with Saafir for a couple minutes about what he’s doing and stars he’d like to get it on with. Esinchill and Money B talk about what he loves about Sex and the Studio for about two and a half minutes. Money B talks with Kola Loc of Doggy’s Angels about different aspects of sex such as the weirdest place she’s had sex for a couple minutes. Big Chan from Doggie’s Angels takes almost a minute to talk with India about where she first had sex and how many guys she’s taken on. Humpty Hump talks about the “Weggie Girl” with one of the guys at the club for about a minute, with Loreal for almost a minute about dealing with men sexually and what we need to do, and with random women around the club about size for about a minute. Money B interviews Shy for nearly five minutes about what she does, sex and masturbation, what her dream man should do to her, size, and a story about the craziest place she’s had sex. Finally, Money B talks with Jacqie for about three and a half minutes about how much sex she has, her relationships, and celebrities that get her going.

The Money Game lasts about six minutes and features guys betting 2 Fly Ely $100 that can’t do eight shots of 151 and cognac before the Digital Underground show and shows how he is during the show, throwing up afterwards, and being hauled out back. I can see this one appealing to some people, but it didn’t do much for me. You also get Redman’s “Asstray”, which lasts about forty five seconds and shows just how talented Envy-Mi’s derriere is. The Girls of Sex and the Studio featurette lasts about a minute and a half and is mixed footage of the girls from behind the scenes put to music. Play’n Pool features about a minute and a half of Humpty Hump and his homies showing off Caramel’s major assets on a pool table. Shock G Freestyle on Heliom and Luniz “Craziest Place You Had Sex” each last about a minute and gives you just what they sounds like they’re going to. Ron Jeremy and Daisy Dukes lasts about twenty seconds and shows Ron playing with Daisy. Full Length “DROPS” features a few quick takes of the stars pimping themselves and is easily skipped in my opinion. Finally, the blooper reel lasts about a minute. There’s more than a few flubups. There’s also a bit of cracking up, a little bit from the sex scenes, and some fun on the set. It’s a short featurette, but nicely done.

The most impressive extra, however, is the bonus CD. It includes tracks from people like Money B, Clee, Dungeon Squad, and Esinchill and features quite a few adult stars on it as well. I’m not a fan of this kind of music, so it isn’t the best CD for me, but I did listen to it and thought it was well done. I’m sure that fans of rap music will find this to be an excellent extra and that it will get more than a little play from them.

Themes: Straight, music, tease, masturbation, anal (finger), spanking, lesbian, group, toys, oral, and DP (toys)

Raincoat Factor: Medium low

Condom Usage: None

Overall: Currently, most Metro DVDs can be found online for between $12 and $25 with many stores offering them for around $20. As a porno this one is worth a rental if you’re curious, but if you’re going into it as an adult rap music movie this one should be at the top of your list. The technical aspects are normally very good, but there are a few problems. The extras are nothing short of amazing and a perfect fit for the feature.

Note to Metro: Although this movie isn’t quite my style, I’ve gotta admit that you did an amazing job here!
