The Little Details

Running Time: 135 min.

Production Date: 6 / 2 / 2006

Director: Michael Ninn

Cast: A. J. Bailey, Brooke Banner, Dee, Heather Vuur, Jassie, Monica Mayhem, Nevaeh, Jean Val Jean, Nick Manning, Scott Nails, and Sledge Hammer in sexual roles and Ruby Flame and Jeremy Steele in non-sex roles

The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Eddie Van Halen doing music for porn would draw me in if he was doing it for a slug like Jim Legman, let alone a legendary artistic director like Michael Ninn. I can't help but have very high hopes for this one!

Initial Reaction: It's nothing short of amazing!

Who Should Watch It : Fans of artistic porn with a plot

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting straightforward porn or a bit of nastiness

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very impressive. The audio is clear and well balanced, and didn't come close to having a fault. The video is almost as impressive as the audio. It's well lit and free of grain, with a look that would seem on line with many high budget mainstream movies. It has a few artistic effects, but every one works for the movie. All that said, there is one major fault with the video. Surprisingly, it is presented in the non-anamorphic widescreen format. With the care that went into the video here, presenting it in a substandard format like this just seems wrong and definitely took the technical aspects, as well as the overall movie, down a notch for me. It's like having a world renowned chef cook you a meal and then serve it up to you on a styrofoam plate with a plastic knife and a spork.

Music: As often occurs with Ninn Worx movies, Loren Alexander provides much of the music, but here he's joined by the legendary Eddie Van Halen. As usual with Ninn, the music is as much a part of the movie as the visuals and it works fantastic here. The balance varies throughout the movie, and every single song seems to fit the scene and style of the movie. As has occasionally happened with adult films for me in the past, I couldn't help but wish that a soundtrack CD were included with the movie or was available online.

Disc Complaints: There are quite a few chapter breaks in the movie, but there's not a full time stamp to the movie that lets you go where ever you want in the movie. This seems really ironic here because in the commentary Michael Ninn talks about one of the great things about DVD over VHS being that the viewer can easily go to whatever they want to see in the movie. That's true to a point here, as long as where you want to go has its own chapter break.

Menus: The main menu very nicely blends a little animation with a bit of the movie. The chapter menu nicely keeps the style of the main menu, and lets you choose a scene based on a title for each chapter. There's also a sex menu which lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene.

The Feature

The death of a loved one can twist one's mind. Ever since Heather's son died she's been angry at God and it's driven a rift between her and her husband. She finds herself damned after his death, but not without power as she's connected to the future with people. Nick, a cop who's lost his faith as well as his wife and child, becomes one of those people as he investigates the disappearance of one of Heather's victims...

Scene 1 – Jassie and Jean Val Jean

A very melancholy Jean Val Jean starts out the action in what looks to be Victorian times giving into the temptation Jassie offers him as he sits at the piano. They kiss passionately and help her undress while the action cuts together with Jassie lying back on the piano to diddle herself. They slowly move on for Jean to kiss Jassie's pussy as she lies back and for Jassie to suck his cock as he sits on the edge of the piano. Jean fucks her from behind and lets her ride him reverse cowgirl style before supposedly popping inside her.

This is a fantastic scene. It starts out with a softer, “couples” feel, but doesn't crush the passion between Jassie and Jean. Instead it gradually builds throughout the scene, and ends up showing that couples sex doesn't have to be devoid of passion. The implied popshot at the end of the scene didn't do much for me, but the scene had so much going for it up until then that it didn't take too much away from the scene. The ending might be a bit weak, but this is still a very hot scene.

Scene 2 – Dee and Sledge Hammer

Heather delivers smoking hot Dee in a white dress to demonic Sledge, who's barely recognizable in his makeup, on the stairway leading to a house. Sledge strips off her dress, and soon after Dee's on her knees working him over orally and giving him some great eyes. She gets up to ride him reverse cowgirl style, and makes sure to take a quick break to suck Sledge clean. He also takes her from behind before dropping an impressive load in her smiling mouth.

This is a heavily artistic scene that also manages to be pretty darn hot. Dee does a great job going from looking scared to turned on, and does a great job taking Sledge and his size on. The scene moves along pretty quickly, but still manages to have good heat and chemistry. This is an impressive scene.

Scene 3 – Brooke Banner and Nick Manning

When Nick is given a little time with his wife Brooke, who's in a virginal white wedding dress, he greets her with a soft and loving kiss. Nick helps her strip down to her veil, stockings, and garter belt and then goes to work on her pussy with his tongue and fingers. The veil disappears as Brooke sucks Nick's cock, and as soon as she gets Nick ready Brooke bounces on his bone cowgirl style. He also takes her from behind and missionary style before appearing to pop inside her.

This is an above average scene. It does a great job with the dream-like look that works well for the story, but the chemistry between Nick and Brooke just wasn't as strong as in some of the other scenes. Nick also seemed to want to make things much rougher, which really came across in the blowjob as he got into a little “dirty slut” talk that didn't seem close to right for the scene. The idea's right for this scene, but it just didn't come out as well as the idea.

Scene 4 – Jassie

Jassie lies back to masturbate after playing with one of her dolls. She keeps on a long white dress and lets a few photos fall around her as she reaches under her desk to play with herself and runs her hands around her pierced nipples. She even rubs her pussy through her dress as the next scene starts out.

This is a very short segment. There's a sensual feel to it that works well for the movie, and it ends up being a very nice tease. You don't get to see anything more than a little nipplage from Jassie, but at the same time there's a great sexuality to it. This is a short and soft but still effective scene.

Scene 5 – A. J. Bailey, Heather Vuur, and Nevaeh

Heather, A. J., and Nevaeh get it on on a long staircase in black dresses and veils. Heather lets A. J. suck a little blood from her finger before they're joined by Nevaeh. Heather quickly finds herself between the girls as they help her strip down and worship her body with their hands and mouths. Once they satisfy her, Heather stands back with a black hat, stockings, and a cigarette holder and enjoys a smoke as she has Nevaeh and A. J. go at it for her pleasure. Nevaeh spanks A. J.'s ass as she and Heather urge her on before they kiss passionately, and then has A. J. get down to tongue and finger her pussy. Heather joins back in to fuck A.J. with a glass dildo from behind, and after she satisfies her sucks the dildo clean while A.J. and Nevaeh kiss.

Girl – girl scenes can be very hit or miss for me, but this one hit in a big way. I love how the action goes from the girls pleasuring Heather physically to getting it on with each other to please her as she watches to Heather joining back in. The trash talk worked very well here, and I love the spanking in the middle. Although toys can often seem like a crutch in a scene, that didn't happen here either. This is a darn hot all girl scene that worked very well for me, and might even be my favorite scene in the movie.

Scene 6 – Monica Mayhem and Scott Nails

Monica, in her redheaded stage, starts out the final sex scene in a black corset outside running her hands around herself until a masked Scott is brought to her in a suit. He immediately drops down to lick her pussy and give it a little finger action. Monica sucks his cock in return before letting him fuck her from behind against a post, and then sucks him a little more before going for the reverse cowgirl ride. Finally, Monica has him pop on his mask before she licks it up.

This scene is pure Ninn. The wasteland-like location and fog are there, along with the darkness. I mean, this scene seems to be to Michael Ninn's sex what flying doves are to John Woo movies. There's nice action between Scott and Monica, and she gets into it nicely. The extra blowjob between positions seems natural rather than something to stretch out the action, and there's a very nice blend of camera angles. This is yet another nicely done sex scene.

Sacred Sin is a movie that I can see either working for people in a big way or being barely watchable. As usual with Michael Ninn, there's very heavy artistic imagery throughout the movie, and the sex isn't nearly as heavy as in some of his other movies. Out of six scenes, two of them have implied internal pops (one of which worked for me, one of which didn't) and another is a small masturbation scene. There's only one facial in the movie, and not so much as a finger in the ass. There's also strong amount of story that has a heck of a lot of depth and which can be viewed on many different levels. This isn't your typical porno, and if you just want to turn off your brain and watch people fuck as somebody shakily holds a camera this definitely isn't going to be for you.

For those who want to see the limits being stretched for adult film, Sacred Sin may be just what they're looking for. Although I can enjoy a good brainless porno, it's nice to see somebody trying to do something new and different rather than just doing the same movie with a couple different people and every girl getting a load on her face for each scene. It's visually stunning, and worked for the big head just as much if not more than for the little head. Yes, the story had me on the verge of confusion through much of Sacred Sin, but at the same time drew me in. It worked to the point that even before the movie was done I knew I was going to have to watch it again. Even more important than this, though, was that I really looked forward to doing so. I'm a fan of “whacked religion” stuff, and there's a fair amount of that throughout the movie both in the story and in the visuals. I don't want to give away much of the story, but Ninn masterfully blends it with the sex while twisting it around so that the viewer is more than a little unsure of what's going on right up until the end of the movie. Even then, though, they might not completely get the movie as it does work on a few different levels. Although there were a couple minor things that didn't quite work for me, there's no denying that Sacred Sin is one of the best made movies I've watched this year.

The Extra Stuff

The second DVD is devoted completely to extras. Trailers are included for In the Garden of Shadows, Innocence Wet, Faith, Pushed, Catherine, and Allure. The photo gallery lasts a whopping sixteen and a quarter minutes and includes roughly two hundred and fifty fantastic looking snapshots. There's also deleted scenes, bonus scenes, an audio commentary, and music videos.

Michael Ninn brings in co-writer L. E. Smith for the audio commentary. There's a fair amount of dead air here, but it's also a very worthwhile commentary. Ninn talks a bit about where the movie came from while also talking about the challenges in making it and how some of it changed and evolved as they went. Smith does a great job giving him a prod here and there to bring out a few new things, and they seem careful to not reveal too much too soon as they go along. Even with some dead air, this is a very nice commentary that fans of Ninn will probably really enjoy. With how reclusive Ninn is it's rare to hear him speak of his own work, and that makes this a very worthwhile extra for any of his fans. This was a very worthwhile commentary.

Three of Eddie Van Halen's music videos are also included. Surprisingly, only one of them comes from Sacred Sin. Rise comes form Sacred Sin, with Catherine coming from Catherine. Catherine is available in two versions, one with both Eddie Van Halen and Loren Alexander and one with PURE Eddie. I'm not much of a music video person, but as a Van Halen fan these made a very nice extra.

Roughly six minutes of deleted scenes are also included. These aren't plot scenes, but instead are extra sex scenes that include things like the pop shots from Jassie's scene with Jean Val Jean and Brooke Banner's scene with Nick Manning. The boxcover states that there's a commentary with Micheal Ninn available for these segments, but I never heard one or could find anything like it. He did talk quite a bit about it in the main commentary, so I'm not too disappointed by its exclusion here as I think that might have gotten a bit redundant. It is, though, a great extra. Jassie takes a great facial and I agree that it would have taken the opening scene in a very different direction that I don't like as much as how the original scene was handled. Nick gives Brooke plenty of “whore” and “slut” talk as she finishes him off, and once again I think Ninn was completely right in cutting it out. The facial is nicely done, but I can't agree with cutting it out as much as Nick's vocals. Regardless, this still makes a great extra.

Six bonus scenes are included, lasting almost a half hour. With the exception of Dee, who's sadly missing here, each girl in the cast gets their own solo scene. There's also a bonus scene between Heather and Jassie. The scenes last between about two and a half minutes each for Nevaeh and Brooke to about ten minutes for Jassie and Heather's scene, which doesn't let them get involved with each other with more than a kiss. It's a very nice collection of solo scenes, and varies the styles a little. Some of the scenes have a very “Ninn-ish” feel, while others are a bit more straightforward. It's another very nice extra, and gives the DVD a bit more stroke-value.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts nearly an hour and a quarter rather than the mere hour the cover claims. After a few flashes around the set, things focus on Heather. She talks about getting into the industry and the movie before it moves on with Jassie and Jean Val Jean, who each talk about their role. Dee chats about her scene with Sledge, with Sledge adding in a few comments while in the makeup chair, as well as her time in the industry, her other movies for Michael Ninn, and slaughtering innocent squirrels. Brooke is next, who doesn't seem overly excited about having Nick as her partner and even says that they don't work well together for sex. There's also a bit of Brooke getting dressed up for the scene and posing for photos before things move over to Nick and Jeremy. There's a surprising amount of Jeremy, who talks about his method of preparing for non-sex scenes as well as talking about some of his makeup effects. Nevaeh and A.J. are next, who chat a little about their scene and background before posing and chatting after the scene. There's also some very fun questions in the Random Q&A, such as asking which one celebrity they'd like to kill or have sex with or if they'd pick up a guy at a funeral. There's even questions about color mixing, strange fetishes, and strange porno experiences that helped this section become my favorite in the featurette. Finally, there's some shots around the set as they get ready for Heather's flying sequence as well as some of the cast talking about their experiences with Michael Ninn. It's a very nicely done behind the scenes featurette that gives a very good look at both the making of the movie as well as the performers as people.

The Down -n- Dirty Sex Stuff

Themes: Straight, masturbation, lesbian, group, toys, and spanking

Raincoat Factor: Medium

Condom Usage: None

The Bottom Line:

Currently, Sacred Sin can be found online for about $25 to $35. This one is well worth the money if you like artistic sex where you have to use your brain. The movie is fantastic and hot, and the only thing that holds back the movie is the non-anamorphic format. For that matter, it's about the only thing that holds back the entire release, as there's plenty of effort put into the extras as well. This is easily one of the best DVD releases I've seen this year.

Note to Ninn Worx: With an anamorphic transfer, this one would have gotten a perfect “5” overall...
