You know why Racquel Darrian rates the title of 1990’s “Racquel on Fire”? Because people like me see Raquel’s name in a movie and our pants start going crazy. You can’t complain about marketing if you’re going to let yourself be sucked in by it so easily. But Racquel’s one of those girls who’s just too pretty for porn; watching her is like seeing that babe in the office elevator or the one you can’t keep your eyes off of at the local mall get naked and spread her legs. She doesn’t seem to have any business being in porn—and I don’t care how horny she is.

She’s got two scenes in this movie. The first is a lesbian tryst with Bridgette Monroe, the second a straight romp with Derrick Lane. She’s not exactly “on fire” in either one. Thirteen years ago, Racquel was just entering her second year in the business and she was only twenty-one or –two years old. She’s already got the looks, the charm, and the eagerness to be a star, but her technique still needs work. She gives Lane a lengthy blowjob, but never takes him deep. She cuts short cunnilingus with Bridgette in order to finger her. What she does well, however, is cum. Even though Bridgette is left to close their scene together by rubbing a standing Racquel’s pussy, Racquel’s orgasm makes it interesting.

Racquel shouldn’t have been paired with Bridgette in the first place—not when the cast also includes Debi Diamond and Kimberly Kane. Bridgette entered the business the same year as Racquel; the two of them together make for a very light lesbian scene. Her scene with Derrick Lane is better, but not so good as to put it in the top three, which means that Racquel’s two scenes are the weakest in the film. Still, give the film a more accurate title—say, “Kimberly Kane on Fire” or “Debi Diamond on Fire”—and I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. Porno marketers 1, Me 0.

There’s nothing spectacular in this movie, but Kimberly and Debi and even Bridgette in her scene with Jeff Golden provide some good moments. Bored housewife Kimberly takes on mailman T. T. Boy in the opener. The sex is actually pretty good, though director Gordon Van Der Meer strings too many positions together and holds them too long to give the scene a satisfying rhythm. Kimberly provides the movie its only anal activity.

Debi Diamond and Jeff Golden hook up for the movie’s best scene. The silly storyline has Golden selling encyclopedias door-to-door, but when he walks through Debi’s door, she isn’t about to let him back out again until he’s expanded more than her mind. So he starts with some well-executed cunnilingus, after which Debi treats him to an excellent blowjob she looks terrific performing. Following a long cowgirl interlude, the scene takes an unexpected turn as Golden tells Debi he wants to watch her masturbate. He does likewise, but of course the camera stays mostly on Debi. When Golden cums on his own belly, Debi laps some of it up. (Facial fans be warned: the belly cum is the order of the day here.)

If you like Debi Diamond, if you want to see a young Racquel Darrian, I can see picking this movie up. (I figure there’s got to be some compelling reason to reach all the way back to 1990 for a porno movie.) Maybe nostalgia’s your thing. “Racquel on Fire” certainly has a bit of that Golden Age charm. After screwing the mailman, Kimberly checks the time, and gasps, “Oh, my God, I’m late for my anti-pornography meeting.” It’s a funny line because it’s so matter-of-factly delivered. Like the movie itself, it is what it is, genial and unpretentious.
