Synopsis:
Walter Brooks (Richard Pacheco) is bored with his life when the eccentric Miracle Meyer (Lou Ganapoler) enters his real estate office and offers Walter a chance to spice up his life with a machine that Miracle owns that allows people to go back in time.  Walter utilizes the machine to escape his life, but manages to mess up each of his historical encounters.

Audio/Video:
Irresistible is presented with an English 2.0 Mono track, which works fine for the film.  The sound is low, requiring you to turn up the sound more than normal, but the dialog is clear and the audio levels remain basically the same throughout the film.  The sound quality is essentially the same as the old Essex VHS tapes and comparable to other films recently released from the same period.  VCX hasn't included any foreign language tracks or subtitle options for the feature film.

Irresistible is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1, which does not appear to be the original aspect ratio for the film.  I would guess it was originally released in the aspect ratio of 1.66:1 or 1.85:1 as many of the scenes feature action occurring on the very edge of the screen, sometimes falling off the edge, giving the appearance that the master was blown up to make it fit on a television screen without black bars.  The video presentation is better than many VCX discs, but not up to the quality of many other companies classic releases.  The colors are washed out and in darker scenes much of the color is gone.  Blacks appear as a light grey.  The edges lack definition and the pictures is on the soft side.  There is also a lack of definition to the background.  There is also a band towards the right side of the screen throughout the film that flickers around where the pictures is slightly lighter in color.  There are also minimal artifacts present on the print.  Despite all this, the print is watchable, it isn't like some of the discs that VCX has put out where they are almost unwatchable that the print is so bad and the disc is so flawed.

Cut Warning:
I'm not sure of the original run time for the film but an earlier Essex VHS tape had a run time of 100 minutes, meaning that fourteen minutes have been trimmed from that version.  However, the cuts aren't obvious if you haven't seen the longer version of the film and know what is missing.  The places where it looks like there is cut footage aren't different from the Essex VHS.  There could be additional footage originally in the film from these places that are cut from both versions though.  There is also an R-rated version of the film that was previously released with the title Simply Irresistible that has a run time of 87 minutes that ran on Showtime years ago late at night that has added scenes not present in either this or the Essex tape.  The majority of the missing footage from the Essex tape is plot related and not from the sex scenes.  The cuts I noticed missing in this version are as follows.

When Walter Brooks (Richard Pacheco) first arrives at Miracles Myers' (Lou Ganapoler) place, footage of him getting out of his car and walking to the address is cut.  The next cut is shortly afterwards.  Footage when Walter Brooks is walking through Miracle's building and tripping on objects is cut.  The next cut is at the beginning of the sex scene with Walter Brooks and Cleopatra (Star Wood).  The shot of Egypt has been moved to later in the scene to cover where footage of Walter kissing Cleopatra's neck has been cut.  Then the beginning of the pussy eating has also been cut.  After the sex scene, some of the dialog when Cleopatra is leaving the room is cut along with her blowing Walter kisses.  The next cut scene is from when Walter and Arlene Brooks (Samantha Fox) are talking in bed.  All the dialog starting from Arlene saying "I love you Walter" through him ignoring her and Arlene looking upset has been cut.

The next cut is just before Miracle sends Walter to Verona.  All the footage of Walter and Miracle walking away talking about Romeo (Martin Ganapoler) and Juliet (Gail Sterling) has been cut.  All the footage of Romeo prior to the sex scene has been cut as well.  The footage of Juliet saying that Walter is a mysterious stranger and about her being engaged to Romeo has been cut.  During the sex scene, the shot of Romeo waiting for Juliet has been cut.  The next cut is after Juliet has been sent back to her time, the end of Walter and Miracle talking has been cut.  The last cut that I noticed is before the scene with the Mata Hari (Nicole Black), when Walter is in bed reading the book 'The Women Who Spied' is cut along with some dialog with Arlene up until she brings him some cocoa.  These are all the cuts that I noticed, there could have been more that I missed as I didn't do a side-by-side comparison of the versions.

The version titled Simply Irresistible, also distributed by Essex, has three added scenes and two extended scenes.  I assume that most of the added footage, if not all of it, was shot for the R-rated version to make up for the missing explicit footage since only one of these scenes contains footage that could have been considered objectionable.  The first of the added scenes occurs prior to the beginning of the X-rated version and features Walter talking to a psychiatrist (uncredited) about the problems that he and Arlene are having with their marriage.  The scene lasts for two minutes and three seconds.  The next added scene occurs prior to the beginning of the X-rated version as well.  The scene features Arlene and Walter in bed talking while reading.  Richard goes to the bathroom and watches his nurse neighbor (uncredited) undress through the window while arguing with Arlene.  The scene lasts for three minutes and thirteen seconds.

The next addition is an extension in the scene where Walter is going to Miracle Myers place there is roughly ten more seconds of footage of Walter walking to Miracle's.  The next addition is another added scene which is located after Walter meets Cleopatra, but before their sex scene, back at Miracle's place.  Miracle has a short conversation with God (Red Tower) about sending Walter to see Cleopatra and a past mess up of Miracle's.  The scene lasts for one minute and nineteen seconds.

The last addition is at the end of the scene with Walter and Mata Hari after Walter says "I love someone else" where the X-rated version cuts away, the R-rated version continues with the Gestapo busting in on the two.  The scene cuts to the Mata Hari being interrogated by a German officer (uncredited) in which he makes her disrobe to her bra and panties and then she is bound to a chair by a German torture artist (uncredited) who then cuts off her remaining clothing while the German officer continues to question her.  The German torture artist uses nipple clamps on Mata Hari and the German officer gets sick by the brutality.  Walter wakes up screaming and Arlene comforts him.  The two kiss and he announces that he loves her.  The extended footage runs for twelve minutes and thirteen seconds.  There may have been additional added footage that I missed as well since I didn't do a side-by-side comparison with this version either.

Special Features:
There are no extras included on the disc which is too bad as it would have added to the disc.  A commentary from Richard Pacheco on the film would have been nice.  They could have included the additional scenes from Simply Irresistible as deleted scenes or made a nice two disc set with both versions, but that's obviously too much to hope for since VCX couldn't even manage to use a complete print of the film that wasn't hacked to pieces for the disc.

Disc Design/Navigation:
The disc is designed with simple animated menus with background music.  The menus are slightly crude in design so although they are functional, the could have been easier to use.  There are five chapters available from the chapter menu.  Each one is identified with a still frame from where the chapter goes to.  The chapters don't line up with the beginning of the sex scenes and some sex scenes don't have a chapter for them at all.  There are six chapter stops within the feature film itself.  There is no time code encoded on the disc for the feature film.

General Review:
VCX has gone and released Irresistible in a second release.  The original release, which was released in July of 2003, was on a DVD-R.  The new release is now on a pressed DVD-5.  Other than that there are no differences in the release, the same transfer is used for this release and the same footage that was missing from the DVD-R release is missing from this one as well.  It's great to see that VCX has realized their mistake in releasing films on DVD-R's instead of pressed discs and is going back and releasing their old DVD-R catalog on pressed discs now.

Irresistible is a fun cheesy film from the later part of the Golden Age of adult entertainment which luckily never takes itself seriously.  The plot, and dialog, is suitably corny and there is a point behind the film.  Unfortunately, much of the point is lost in this version as many of the plot sequences that deal with it are truncated.  Although there is infidelity in the film, ultimately it is about true love despite issues within a relationship, which makes it more acceptable for couples viewing.

It almost appears as if the film was originally intended to be an R-rated film and at some point during pre-production the producers decided to turn it into an X-rated film.  The sex scenes are rather short, shorter than is standard for the time period and some of them are just slightly above an R-rating.  For the most part, the cast looks good and they seem to be enjoying themselves.  The sex scenes in the film are tame, even the orgy scene, so it is doubtful that any viewers will have issues with how far the sex goes.  Viewers looking for nastier sex will probably find the sex in the film too tame for them.  The sexual themes are vaginal sex with pussy eating, blow jobs, hand job, lesbianism, orgy and female masturbation.  For viewers that care about condom use, there are no condoms used in the film.

The film, which appears to have been shot in San Francisco, obviously had a limited budget and utilizes some cheap locations, like Miracle's storage building, and has some cheap looking props, like the carnival ride looking time machine, but it all works in the favor of the film, adding to the overall cheesiness of the production.  The acting in the film is average, nothing amazing, yet nothing so horrible that it will make you want to cry.

All in all, despite the cuts that have been made to the film and the barely passable transfer, Irresistible is a fun film, which is acceptable for couples viewing, and even has a well intentioned message behind the plot.  The sex scenes are going to be too short for some viewers and anyone looking for straight out masturbation material is best to leave this film on the shelf.  This is a far better mood film than raincoat material.

Scene Synopsis:
The first scene brings us Dorothy LeMay and Richard Pacheco and the scene starts out with Dorothy giving Richard a blow job.  Then she climbs on him for some vaginal sex.  Richard eats her pussy for a little then the two go back to the vaginal sex.  To end the scene, Richard cums on her ass cheek.  The second scene gives us Star Wood and Richard Pacheco.  The scene starts out with Richard licking Star's body before he starts eating her pussy.  Then Star climbs on top of him and they go into the vaginal sex.  Richard pulls out and cums on his stomach to end the scene.

The third scene features Gail Sterling and Richard Pacheco and Gail starts the scene out by giving Richard a short hand job before she gives him a blow job.  Gail mounts Richard and they go into the vaginal sex.  There is no cum shot to end the scene.

The fourth scene brings us Gail Sterling, Gina Gianetti and Richard Pacheco.  The scene starts out with Richard Pacheco watching Gina eat Gail's pussy.  Then Richard gets into the action and Gail blows him quickly and then trades off to Gina who gives him a long blow job.  Then Gail goes back down and she and Gina give him a blow job.  Richard ends the scene by cumming on Gina's mouth.

The fifth scene gives us Gail Sterling, Gina Gianetti, Mai Lin, Lynn Francis, Richard Pacheco and Billy Dee.  Billy and Lynn start out with some vaginal sex and Gina sits on Richard's face for some pussy eating and Mai rides his dick for some vaginal sex.  Gail works on Lynn's pussy and Billy's dick as Billy fucks Lynn.  Billy cums on Lynn's pussy and Gail cleans off his dick for him with her mouth.  Richard doesn't cum at the end of the scene as it is interrupted by a plot portion.

The sixth scene features Nicole Black and Richard Pacheco.  Nicole starts the scene out by masturbating before they go into the vaginal sex.  Richard cums on her hand to end the scene.  The seventh and final scene brings us Samantha Fox and Richard Pacheco and the scene starts out with Richard eating out Samantha.  Then Samantha gives him a blow job.  Then the two go into the vaginal sex.  There is no cum shot to end the scene.

Parting Thoughts:
Irresistible is a fun film from the early 80s that never takes itself to seriously.  The story is cheesy and some of the props are lacking, but the film makes for a fun watch.  Unfortunately, this version from VCX has been heavily cut, for seemingly no good reason, which has removed part of the story from the film and most of the point behind it.  If you've never seen the film, you probably won't notice the edits, but if you have, you're sure to notice something is missing.  The transfer isn't the best, but it's better than many other releases from VCX.  If you are a fan of the classics and don't mind having an edited version of the film, this disc is worth picking up, but I'd wait for it to be on sale.
