The Short Story

Initial Expectations: I had no clue what to expect going into this series, but I'm always curious about instructional releases and had to give it a shot.

Initial Reaction: It's pretty good, and has a nicely laid back feel.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting help with the individual subjects

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting a very clinical look at the subjects

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: As with any collection of different releases or compilation, the technical aspects vary a bit from scene to scene or movie to movie. Since these are all filmed at roughly the same time, the technical aspects are pretty consistent from release to release and are normally pretty average. The audio is a little muffled and low, but was free of background noises and has a nice balance. Some of the audio does get very low and make it hard to understand, but not much. The video is presented in non-anamorphic widescreen. It has a little grain and is a little on the low side, but has very little camera motion.

Music: There's a little music here and there, but not much. When there is music it has a very soft feel, but the balance varies from release to release.

Menus: The main menu is very simple, and just gives a still of the boxcover with the choices. The chapter menu is also very simple, and lets you choose a segment based on the girl in it, a still for the segment and a title, or just a text choice depending on the release. .

The Feature

How to Perform Volume 1 collects four releases from the Educational Sex Series, namely How to Perform Cunnilingus, How to Perform Deep Throat, How to Perform Fellatio, and How to Perform a Handjob. As I have covered the individual titles previously, here I will simple give some general comments on the series.

The How to Perform Educational Sex Series sets itself apart from most of the other instructional releases out there by going the hardcore route. Each segment gives some nice basics, but uses porn stars to present the material in simple and common language rather than seeing how clinical it can get so that nobody gets too squeamish or realizes that they're talking about sex. Instead the girls talk their way through what they're doing, and often give many variations in a very sex positive atmosphere. Caren Caan is easily the star of this collection as she's a new enough porn star to not be known by everybody, which makes her a bit more easy to relate to. That ease of relating continues right through every one of her performances because she always looks like she's having a lot of fun with the different topics and shows plenty of enthusiasm. I enjoyed Caren so much in these releases that I actually have a few of her regular porn titles on my wish list that I'll be checking out soon. Although only a few people get up to Caren's level of enthusiasm and friendliness, very few of them bomb out, with Sharmane Lynn's handjob segment being the absolute worst in the entire set. Each release here offers some nice information in a very easy and laid back way that makes it nice to watch.

Sadly, there's also a few faults with the titles. The first is that with normally three girls covering each subject, there's a fair amount of material that gets repeated. With instructional releases that isn't always a bad thing, but I'll admit there were a few times where I had the “Again???” thought hit my head. The other problem is some of the camera work. It's a bit hit or miss, but has a tendency to get a little too close. Thankfully those are pretty minor problems, and I don't think either are a big enough problem to hold anybody back from picking up this release.

How to Perform Volume 1 from the Educational Sex Series is a nice collection focusing on oral action and foreplay. The subjects are normally nicely presented in a way that is easy to relate to and I think will work for a lot of people by doing it at a normal person's level rather than getting overly clinical or simple. There's some good information in each release, but some of it can get a little repetitive and the cameras can get a little too close. If you're feeling like you could use a little more help in the oral and foreplay areas, this is a very good set to pick up.

The Extra Stuff

Each DVD includes trailers and a long photo gallery.

The Down -n- Dirty Sex Stuff

Themes: Straight, instructional, interracial, oral, handjobs, titty fucking, swallowing, and lesbian

Raincoat Factor: Medium high

Condom Usage: None

The Bottom Line:

I was lucky enough to be given this set at Erotica LA to check out, but I don't see it available for purchase online anywhere. If you do see it and it interests you, I'd recommend picking it up as the material is nicely presented and the technical aspects are normally above average. There isn't much for extras, but that's not unusual with instructional releases. This is a pretty good box set.
