“Heaven” is a dark feature directed by Paul Thomas and distributed by Vivid that is heavily plot-driven and that eventually works its way to an intriguing—yet grim—ending. The storyline revolves around an extraordinarily unlucky character, Alonzo (played by Tommy Gunn), and an exotic dancer, Heaven (played by Hillary Scott), whom he meets at one of his friend’s clubs. Among other things, Alonzo has a gambling problem, and this—coupled with the feelings that he develops for Heaven—ultimately leads him to his own demise. He’s not alone on this path, however, as there are plenty of twists and turns along the way that intertwine a host of other less-than-savory characters into this tragic tale. Among them are his tough-guy “friends” (played by Herschel Savage and Tom Byron) and a promiscuous, unbalanced dancer (played by Lanny Barby) who is prone to jealousy. The visuals in this film, while never really losing heat and typically quite good, at times border on being disturbing, as they parallel and coincide with the melancholic storyline. To illustrate, there is an unnerving rape scene involving Herschel Savage’s character and Hillary Scott’s character, and there is also a scene featuring Tom Byron’s character and Hillary Scott’s character in which the true motive behind Hillary’s (Heaven’s) consent appears to be a misplaced attempt on her part at defeating her own internal anguish. While the standard happy-go-horny porn motif often isn’t at play in this production, the deeper plot and more intensely-themed scenes do give the actors and actresses a chance to shine with their actual acting abilities. Hillary Scott, Tommy Gunn, Herschel Savage, and Tom Byron all do an excellent job in portraying their characters and making them believable. The locations and the settings that are utilized also lend a strong sense of realism to this film. Indeed, this production is interesting on a level beyond simply its sex.

With all of that in mind, however, one certainly shouldn’t get the impression that the sex is second-rate in this feature—as this is certainly not the case. With Hillary Scott and Lanny Barby on board, there are multiple anal sex scenes. Hillary takes the three primary male characters (Tommy Gunn, Tom Byron, and Herschel Savage) anally in most of her scenes with them, and Lanny performs anal sex with Tom Byron and Tommy Gunn and also has it as part of a three-way with two guys at a bachelor party she’s working. Also of interest is a blowjob that Lanny performs on Tom Byron out in his car that, due to Tommy Gunn’s interruption, never actually goes to completion.

The supporting female cast, while relatively minimal in terms of acting opportunities, also adds some flare to the sexual festivities. Holly Morgan blows Herschel Savage behind a bar, while Tom Byron is taking Lanny Barby on stage at the club. Nadia Styles has a three-way with two guys at a bachelor party at which she is dancing. Additionally, Carly Parker gets it vaginally and anally from Tom Byron in a boxing ring, while Lanny and Tommy Gunn are having it out on the other side.

In terms of production values, it’s fairly clear that a lot went into the sets and the planning of this feature, and it paid off. The disc plays quite nicely on an HD set with an HDMI-connected DVD player, as well. The camerawork is solid, the sex is hot, the story is interesting though gloomy, and the acting is exceptional. This is a very solid endeavor and also fairly unique in a world dominated by the gonzo genre.

Given that this is a Vivid feature, one expects to find a number of bonus materials and other options, and there is no let-down here in that area. There is a “Scene Selection” option that is as its name implies. There is a “Behind the Scenes” segment that is interesting and about 18 minutes long, and there is a “Movie Gallery” that plays through a slideshow of “pretty-girl” shots and stills from the movie. One also finds a “Vivid Previews” option—which puts forth various trailers of other releases—and also a “Vivid Products” selection—which presents a variety of advertisements. The “Positions Room” choice plays through the action from the production of the chosen type, while the “Vivid Girl Extras” give a choice of five bonus scenes. These include a Lanny Barby and Stefani Morgan boy-boy-girl-girl sequence (from “Car Wash”), a Carly Parker, Lexxi Tyler, and Tory Lane boy-boy-girl-girl-girl segment in which Tory does anal (from “Cry Wolf”), a Holly Morgan boy-girl scene (from “My Big Fake Wedding”), a Nadia Styles boy-boy-girl romp in which she does anal (from “The Sunny Experiment”), and a Lanny Barby and Hillary Scott girl-girl sequence (from “Burnt Fury”). There are also two delected scenes that are presented under this option—one with Nadia Styles in which she has sex with a couple of guys at the bachelor party and also does anal, and another involving Holly Morgan (?) with Marco Banderas in which she also has anal sex. Finally, still under the “Vivid Girl Extras” menu, there is a text-based biography for former Vivid contract girl, Lanny Barby.

Overall, this production is perfect for those who like things a little bit on the dark side in terms of plot but still want heat in their sexual performances. The acting is quite strong here, and the production values are high. There is also a good deal of anal action, and the sex fits in well with the storyline. A couple of minor drawbacks are the website watermark in the lower right corner of the screen that is always present and also the advertisements that play upon first inserting the disc. The former doesn’t really detract too badly from the goings-on, however, and the latter can be skipped using the “scene forward” button on the remote. In the sum total—and for the proper audience—this title is highly recommended.

Screen Caps from the Production:

Hillary and Tom—at a crucial, defining moment in the plot.

Lanny Barby—the eyes of a killer?
