Running Time: 75 min.

Production Date: 2 / 2 - 3 / 2000

Director: Adriane Gold

Cast: Renee LaRue, Chennin Blanc, Wendy Divine, Blair, Evan Stone, Cheyne Collins, and Eric Masterson

Initial Expectations: This is my first DVD from Legend, so I’m going to keep my mind open going in.

Initial Reaction: Although it had potential for some great sex scenes, it was botched almost completely.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very uneven and unbalanced. I had to adjust the volume quite often while watching Fling . Although most of the sex is very clear, I struggled to understand much of the dialogue. It’s not a big deal here but it does show lack of caring about the product. The video is much the same. It ranges from extremely grainy to very clear in the same shot. I think they might have been using flashlights for much of the lighting and had to share the batteries with the girls warming up with vibrators. There are also some flashes of garbage on the screen.

Music: The music is very quiet in the background. In a lot of places it’s barely noticeable and I wasn’t even sure if it was music in one scene.

Review: The cover of Fling states that it was “Produced and Directed by visionary director Adriane Gold with videography by the ultra-edgy master Ernst Steilglitz”. This is kind of like calling Nic Cramer the master of new transfer methods, Randy West young, or Ed Powers anything other than ‘Ewwwwwwwww!’. The movie feels like a home movie. It appears that Legend thinks ‘visionary directing’ is similar to giving the video camera to drunk Uncle Bob at Christmas. It has the same feel without the slurred commentary. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few videos from family reunions in West Virginia that looked almost exactly like Fling .

The plot of Fling revolves around three couples who find themselves renting the same house for a weekend. Of course they finally agree to share the house. Each couple has a little fight about the privacy which leads into a scene with each couple and then they all get together for one big scene at the end. It’s a decent concept for a porno as long as it’s done halfway decent. The halfway decent comes entirely from the talent of cast. I’d consider picking up a movie if it only had Renee, Maya, or Chennin in it let alone all of them in one. They have some of the best chemistry I’ve ever seen in a porno. Chennin and Cheyne are married, which probably has something to do with it on their end, however I’m not sure about any of the others.

The first scene showcases Chennin and Cheyne in a bedroom. It’s a nice romantic looking room with wood paneling and a fireplace that sets the mood nicely. It feels like it wants to be a good scene that was edited to death. It seemed like there was a noticeable splice at least twice a minute throughout the scene. The lighting was also horrible. A lot of the scene had a blue tinge to it but it wasn’t consistent. By the end of the scene I wanted to go get out my copy of Blue Matrix to see what Cheyne and Chennin can really do.

When I saw that the next scene featured Maya Divine and Eric Masterson I had a feeling that I should probably go get my copy of The Pink Package also. Thankfully this scene is much better and I’d actually call it a hot scene. Eric takes Maya on the kitchen counter and it has a very natural feel. Maya is incredibly cute and knows how to do her thing. I think this was the best scene in the movie.

Of course, this leaves Renee LaRue and Evan Stone which should be another very hot scene. They talk quite a bit before the scene, but I couldn’t make out a quarter of what they said. The actual sex is only mildly hot. There’s a lot of close ups and the distance shots are from weird angles such as from the hallway around the corner. It’s another scene that really deserves better.

Now that everybody has been with their own partner, it’s time for everybody to get together and talk in the living room. Renee talks about how she’s fantasized about being with another woman but has always been too afraid to try it so she’s been in some internet chat rooms. It sounds like a great invitation for all the girls to get together or a fantasy scene with Renee and another woman. Instead, we get to watch Blair masturbate in a funky colored room. Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t have anything against watching women masturbate. It really turns me on. I just have one question here. WHERE THE HELL DID THIS COME FROM??? The scene is okay, but it doesn’t fit anywhere. I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to be in this movie. Of course, with some of the problems with the movie so far, it shouldn’t surprise me too much.

Finally, Maya brings up the idea of swinging. No. Not on the neighborhood playground. Between the couples. This should be a great orgy scene. Instead it completely blows almost all potential it has. Evan and Maya pair up, Cheyne and Renee pair up, and Chennin and Eric pair up and they stay together the entire scene. The only interaction between any couples is Chennin and Renee groping each other’s tits and Maya and Chennin kissing and groping each other’s tits. That’s it. I haven’t been this disappointed since I watched Ed Powers take off his pants.

Not surprisingly, even the credits appear botched. The credits claim the movie is Beach House Swingers . I’m guessing that it was let out as Beach House Swingers and got such a bad response it was re-released as Fling . The only thing I could find that was really well done here is the chemistry. The couples look great together and look like they enjoy each other. That’s about the only thing that gave me pleasure out of watching Fling . At least, I’m assuming the movie is named Fling . It could have just been a suggestion as to what should be done with this DVD.

Extras: The photo gallery lasts about a minute forty and contains snapshots rather than full screen photos. Each shot lasts about four seconds. They’re a nice size but the amount of grain really brings the quality down.

The bios cover Chennin Blanc, Renee LaRue, Blair, and Maya Divine. I think they’re the worst bios I’ve ever seen. The only good thing about them is they list some of the performers other films. The write up on each star is completely tasteless and consists mostly of calling them crack whores, sluts, and stupid. I guess one should expect this from the company that puts out Max Hardcore movies. Maybe it’s supposed to be funny. I’m not laughing.

The behind the scenes contains slightly over nine and a half minutes of extra footage from the movie. Normally this would be good, but in this case I think it would have been best left out. Most of the footage shakes horribly and is of the guys’ asses. After the first thirty seconds I started feeling like I had a greasy chimichanga and then hopped on a roller coaster. It’s not a feeling I like to get while watching porn.

Themes: Straight, tit - fucking, masturbation, toys, orgy, extremely light lesbian

Raincoat Factor: High

Overall: Currently, Fling can be found online for between $13 (on sale) and $24 with most stores offing it for about $20. If you’re a big fan of Maya, Renee, or Chennin, all of whom are very talented, you might like Fling, but don’t get your hopes up. The only way I’d buy this one even as a fan is on sale and I’d recommend renting it first as I don’t think you’ll get a lot of replay value out of it. There’s a lot of potential in the sex scenes but they don’t come close to the potential of the performers. The transfer is poor and the extras which should be very good are only mediocre.

Note to Legend: If this is the quality DVD you’re going to put out, try and find a way to lower your prices. You show some potential in that you include extra footage, which I really like, but the poor transfer can bring even the best of movies down. Unless you’re aiming your product line at wife beaters, rapists, and other sexual criminals, please change your attitude in your bios. It gave me a bad image of your product as soon as I read the first crack whore comment.
