Produced, directed, written and edited by Armand Weston, EXPOSE ME LOVELY (1976, Video-X-Pix) follows on the heels of the domestic film FAREWELL MY LOVELY (1975) as Ras Kean plays a Philip Marlowe-type character named Frosty Knight, who sucks and fucks his way through the seedy underbelly of NYC and solves a case in the process. Look for Annie Sprinkle and Jennifer Welles among the femme fatales and good girls in this porn noir offering. Standard frame. 91 minutes.

Weston weaves a pretty good yarn here as private dick Frosty is hired by Karen Spencer (lovely blonde Cary Lacy, who looks like a slimmer version of Jennifer Wells, who appears later in the film) to find her missing brother, Keith Spencer. (IDing the actor playing Keith would ruin the twist ending, which has over tones of the flick THE CRYING GAME that came many years later)

Director of photography Harry Flecks captures the NYC scene with an eye for colorful shadows and dark contrasts that might turn off some modern viewiers; however, this style of photography is what film noir is really all about as Flecks' photography assists Weston in his portrayal of this dark and decadent world.

So, Weston scores with the script, direction and cinematography but what about his actors? Ras Kean as Frosty Knight with his full head of immovable hair looks more like a California surfer dude than a PI, which is fine when he's sucking and fucking these well-drawn female characters; however, he's called upon to do much, much more here and his narration throughout the film is lifeless and his acting performance as a private dick is pretty weak.

The good news is that Frosty has many wonderful sexual encounters as he sucks and fucks an array of dark haired bad girls like Sprinkle and others plus blonde haired good girls like Lacy and Wells. His encounter with Jennifer Wells is a marvelous sequence with the duo beginning in the bath tub and moving to the bedroom as the two figures are wonderfully captured by Flecks photography with a huge assist from Weston's direction and editing.

So, EXPOSE ME LOVELY (1976, Video-X-Pix) scores on so many levels as Weston really captures that '70s NYC scene via a film noir-inspired story. Production values are all top-notch so try to look/listen past some of Ras Kean's issues and give this DVD a spin.

!!!! 1/2 outta !!!!! for EXPOSE ME LOVELY

And now for some QUICKIES...

THE BUDDING OF BRIE (1980) !!! 1/2

Henri Pachard's XXX re-telling of ALL ABOUT EVE captures the '50s time period in solid fashion; however, his casting of Hillary Summers in the scheming Anne Baxter role is all wrong. Summers lacks the screen presence of even someone like porn performer Laurien Dominique, who plays a minor character here. Maybe Summers got the part because she would take it in the ass when called upon? The lovely Kandi Barbour performs in a strange sex scene where restaurant waiters take turns fucking her and that's worth a look. Jennifer Jordan gets in a bit of Bette Davis bitchiness and has a brief bedroom encounter to boot.

OBSESSED aka ANNA OBSESSED (1977) !!! 1/2

The 82 minute film OBSESSED is in DVD circulation as a 74 or 75 minute film entitled ANNA OBSESSED. Throughout the film, the same nightmare haunts a photographer (Annette Haven) as she eventually seduces a bored housewife (Constance Money) who has a hubby (John Leslie) fucking his secretary (Suzanne McBain) down at the office. Early on, the secretary fantasizes about being seduced by some sort of rapist or killer (Jamie Gillis) but that plot thread really never develops. So, ANNA OBSESSED ends in messy fashion as too many unanswered questions persist; however, Annette Haven is especially lovely here in her role as the photographer and her three way late in the film with Leslie and Money is worth checking out.
