I hope I've caught all of those names correctly. The DVD credits cut off at the bottom of the screen, rendering the last line of text illegible. The DVD cast list and the cast list at DominatrixWaitrix.com don't perfectly match. Some names appear one place and not the other.

Director: Edith Edit.

Production dates: 6/2/02 (taping), 2/1/05 (duplication).

Length: 44 min.

Extras: Four deleted scenes totaling 10 min., bios for the two stars and for the principle crew, and five stills of poster art.

Audiovisual quality: The director has an MFA. Her work on this production is quite creative, as one might hope. The movie is arguably more artsy than pornish, however. The editing is quite tight and tends to cut just when things are getting interesting. The set design and wardrobe are amusing, but the dim lighting and absence of C-shots leave the viewer guessing whether any of the penetration is real. The overall audio quality is fine. The sci fi soundtrack (ambient electronica) is original, albeit not to my personal taste. There are no chapter stops on the disc.

Synopsysis and Critique: I bought my copy of Dominatrix Waitrix for about $30, and I really, really wanted to like it. It's an indie production, shot in Chicago. The participants are the right type of freaks who appeal to me (I had already encountered a couple of them online before hearing about the movie, in fact). The movie was a labor of love for the creator, who maxed out her credit card to make it. It was a labor of love for the cast, too, who reportedly worked for free. The credits are unusually robust and include a choreographer, several composers, and the longest list of thank yous that I've seen. The script is surreal and cerebral enough to reference both Busby Berkeley's "We're in the Money" and Leopold von Sacher Masoch's Venus in Furs. Clearly, this is not cookie cutter porn.

The plot is challenging to follow. Basically, a Dispatchter (played by Sache in crossdressed costuming) monitors the complaints of harried waitstaff. When a meltdown is imminent, he sends one of his mechanical shapeshifting vixens, the Dominatrix Waitrix (also played by Sache), to assume the form of the distressed worker. Dominatrix Waitrix then spends the day delivering comeuppance to nasty customers and bosses.

It's strictly against the rules for Dominatrix Waitrix to fuck the clients, but of course she does. She binds the wrists of Client 1 (Eve Minax) with an apron and puts a pepper mill in her pussy. Client 1 greatly enjoys this treatment and begins to stalk the Dominatrix. Client 1 strikes a deal with the Dispatcher, who magically transforms the Client into a shapeshifter just like the object of her lust.

There follows a series of truncated scenes in which service workers and their customers start to get sexual (while keeping most of their clothes on), but it quickly becomes apparent that all of these couples are actually Dominatrix Waitrix and Client 1 in disguise. This leads to a confrontation, which inexplicably unfolds on the stage of a nightclub, attended by an audience of "dead puppets" (live actors in silver face paint). Client 1 successfully tops Dominatrix Waitrix and ultimately owns her with a chastity belt. An orgy breaks out amongst the enlivened pangendered crowd.

The sex in this movie is almost entirely softcore. There's never a clear upskirt view of the pepper mill action in the first scene, nor is there a clear view of the large glass dildo penetrating Dominatrix Waitrix in the final scene. And those two pairings are the only fully developed sex scenes in the movie. The orgy participants do seem to be having a swell time, but it's parceled into four micro-segments ranging from 38 seconds to a minute and a quarter. A couple of those snippets provide the only hardcore action in this movie, and good luck catching any of that, since each instance lasts only a few seconds. The dead puppet concept mystifies me. I've watched the movie twice, and I just don't understand who those characters are, or why they're suddenly having a sex party. One deleted scene suggests that the puppets might've once had a stronger presence in the story, but that's not in the final version.

The pornographic apex of the movie is probably the knife play in the closing scene. Eve breaks Sache's skin, leaving a small smear of blood above one breast. That's real, I think, although there is a suspicious jump cut which whisks the viewer slightly past the moment when blood is actually drawn. Anyhow, perhaps I'm sheltered, but the blood play was new to me. I was startled but not disturbed, since the cutting appeared to be skilled edgeplay which flowed naturally in the scene. What I did find unsettling, however, was the discoloration in Sache's hand while it was bound overhead at the wrist. The fingers turn a distinct blue-purple hue, as if her circulation's impeded. That concerned me enough that I fell right out of erotic appreciation mode and into mother hen mode for the remainder of the movie.

Themes: Pairs (F/F, genderqueer), orgy, softcore, BDSM (bondage, knife play, blood play, nipple clamps, light flogging, chastity belt), crossdressing (gender bending/blending is a major theme), kissing, toys (dildos, strap-ons), fetishwear, and body art (tattoos and piercings).

Condom use: Yes, on the pepper grinder. Otherwise, it's not necessary, since it doesn't appear that anyone's cock enters anyone else.

Juice-o-meter: My libido level barely budged. There's too much resentment in the script, and too much withholding in the editing.

Final analysis: Dominatrix Waitrix is a sincere effort that might work as art (I don't feel qualified to say), but for me, it doesn't work as porn. Hence the low rating. There are several online reviewers who've reached a different conclusion, however, and who've rated the story as cool and the sex as hot (which is why I purchased the movie--I trusted their opinions). I will say that Dominatrix Waitrix is very, very different from most adult movies, with some fairly freaky stuff going on, and some viewers might find it appealing for that reason.
