THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES begins with a minute teaser of footage from the ending that reveals a small dose of writer/director/editor Damiano's vision of hell then the marvelous opening Tarot Card credits roll. A rather plain woman named Justine Jones (Georgina) closes a window blind and takes her own life in a jarring wrist-slashing suicide scene ending with Miss Jone's corpse partially submerged in bath tub filled with water and blood. Justine lands in purgatory where Mr. Abaca (John Clemons) allows the virginal Miss Jones to pass through a doorway into a world of lust and depravity before he sends her to her final destination.
Through the doorway, Miss Jones begins a sexual odyssey filled with marvelous encounters. She spends time with The Teacher (Harry Reems) who cures her inhibitions by inserting a butt plug into the upright Miss Jones then teaching her a thing or two about blow jobs as Miss Jones in a hushed voice says "I've waited so long." The Teacher assists in a joyous first fuck then fucks her in the ass to echoes of Miss Jones' "hurt me."
Miss Jones' sexual awakening continues as she encounters a young woman (Jane Hamilton, Georgina's roommate at the time) who oils her up for a female fingering session upon a plastic covered, flat furniture piece.
A dissolve reveals Miss Jones in a bathtub; she gets on her knees for an anal insertion set to strains of Spaghetti Western music!
The Teacher returns and tells Miss Jones she must have "more patience" as she delivers a terrific blowjob/handjob combo.
Miss Jones lands in bed where she plays with a banana and other assorted fruit until an unexpected visitor arrives, a snake. Miss Jones allows the snake to slither into the reaches of her opened mouth. (The snake belonged to actor Marc Stevens, who unexpectedly brought the reptile on set; Damiano easily convinced Georgette to do a scene with the creature)
Miss Jones walks with Abaca and makes a final pitch to improve her standing but he refuses due to the severity of her case, death by suicide.
So, Miss Jones soldiers on in her sexual odyssey, which lands her in a three way with a woman (Erica Havens)and a man (Marc Stevens) that dissolves into another three way with two men (Levi Richards on top, Stevens on bottom) double-penetrating Miss Jones. Miss Jones sounds depraved as she begs for more in a wonderful tight three head shot with Justine's face in the diagonal center. For the finale, the cumshots mostly land on the guys' groins.
With a touch of their fingertips, Abaca sends Justine to a mysterious place where she soon discovers her fate for eternity. There, she encounters the Man in Cell (Albert Gork, Damiano's chosen actor name) who babbles loony dialog reminiscent of the Renfield character from DRACULA. For the final shot, the camera slowly pulls away from the duo becoming smaller and smaller in a sort of triangular shape within the frame then the credits roll on the right side of the wide-screen image. Marvelous.
THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES is one of those few XXX movies that succeeds on many levels: a wonderfully creepy story courtesy of Mr. Damiano that maybe surprised viewers of his first full length film, the original DEEP THROAT, a superb performance from Georgina Spelvin, a finely crafted piece of filmmaking thanks to direction and editing by Gerard Damiano, marvelous cinematography by cameraman Harry Flecks, and an original soundtrack that's solid.
Put all these elements together, pair them with well-staged sex scenes and THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES receives a rare !!!!! outa !!!!!
The first disc also has Gerard Damiano's commentary, which has some interesting revelations. Georgina read scripted lines during the sex scenes, even that bit during the double penetration. Damiano admits that Georgina was perfect for this "girl next door" role and thinks "pretty girls would have been laughed at." Damiano also criticized his own inclusion of the brief footage from the finale to start the film; yes, that footage jumps way too far ahead into the story and lessens the impact of what is an incredible descent into Damiano's version of hell.
Ummm, again, the Spanish Audio feature sounds out-of synch the deeper you get into the film. Same goes for the Spanish Audio of DEBBIE DOES DALLAS and VISTA VALLEY PTA.
The Softcore Version of THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES is the main attraction on the second disc. It's obviously missing the hard-core shots and for that reason entire sex scenes and performances disappear. That second blowjob sequence with Harry Reems features a reaction shot but not much else. Erica Havens scene is edited out. Thus, this version has the story intact but the sex scenes are jumpy due to the excessive cutting of the hard core stuff. Not recommended.
That leaves the original trailer, a short photo gallery, some trailers and a 29 minute documentary called The Devil in Miss Spelvin, that's pretty good. Georgina talks about how Damiano originally hired her as a cook but eventually discovered her acting ability when she did a reading with John Clemons. So, nothing special on Disc 2 except for Georgina's interview.
Thus, the real prize here is Disc 1 with the incredible wide-screen version of THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES and a superb commentary by Gerard Damiano, which is why the set is worth your $20 to $25. Final rating for the 40th ANNIVERSARY of THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES (1973, Pierre Productions, VCX remastered wide-screen re-release, 2009)is !!!!! outa !!!!!
