This shift from sexual drama to XXX thriller proves to be THE CHATROOM'S undoing as writer/director Daniels' handling of the thriller-like aspects are amateurish. And worse, she abandons the most interesting thing in the story-the double life that Jamie leads as Justine-in favor of the shift midway that also introduces a weak Detective Mallory character played by Nick Manning, who delivers yet another wooden acting performance.
As usual, the sex scenes (with condom use) are well-staged by Stormy and well-photographed by Francois Clouzot but a few are poorly integrated into this story. For example, at the center of this feature is an encounter between Jamie's nemesis at the hospital, Dr. Sampson, (Marcus London) and a skinny nurse (Amber Rayne) that's nothing more than an excuse for an encounter with anal sex; it belongs in the extras. Later, after getting the threatening note and spending a frustrating time at the police station, Jamie gets a ride home from her husband, who immediately figures that sex in the hot tub will certainly remedy what ails her. Whatever. The rest of the disc just gets more and more stupid so you might want to stop here since Kaylani's sex scenes are now complete. By the way, Diamond Foxxx's two encounters bookend the sex scenes.
Extras of note include an 11 minute scene from SPEED with Kaylani and Derrick Pierce, a 3 minute photo gallery, 6 trailers and Wicked promo reel.
So, like 4SOME (click on T0MBONE above for a review) that also makes a rather unwelcome shift midway through that flick, THE CHATROOM (2010, Wicked Pictures) jumps from an interesting tale of Jamie/Justine's web cam moonlighting to a lame thriller with Jamie becoming a typical damsel in distress; the resulting uneven mix of xxx scenes and poorly presented thriller aspects drops this disc down a notch or two. Final rating for THE CHATROOM is !! 1/2 outta !!!!!
