Distribpix have gone all out with the Blu-ray release of The Opening of Misty Beethoven providing the best quality version of this film seen yet on home video and a wealth of extras that delve into the film itself. This release is highly recommended for fans of the film, even if they own the previous VCA release, or for any fans of classic adult cinema.

Bella (Arrow) reviews:

Directed, written and co-edited by Alexander Kubelka, BELLA (1980) is quite the starring vehicle for the lovely Tracy Adams as she plays a young seductress, who attempts to steal away her mother's lover. Diane Sloan plays the frustrated Mom and Eric Edwards plays the hunky neighbor who lives nearby. Colorful suburban environs are captured by cinematographer Carter Stevens. Standard frame. 85 minutes.

Memories Within Miss Aggie reviews:
review on

One of Gerard Damiano's least known but perhaps his greatest work, Memories Within Miss Aggie is a Gothic drama with psychotic undertones and a tour de force for all involved. Unfortunately Arrow Video has released the movie from such a low quality master, it is almost unwatchable.

Year: 1974 Length: 73 minutes approximately MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE from 1974 by porn director legend Gerard Damiano is a true classic, that is given a truly terrible dvd transfer. Although advertised as available from Arrow dvd by Excalibur films, this is in fact a transfer they themselves have done of the film from an old Arrow vhs of the film. The transfer is horrible and that is the only thing that keeps me from giving this film a perfect rating. This movie is one of the best porn films I've seen, and it holds it's own as a film story wise also, which is important as this one aims to be a feature. The story behind this film is that Miss Aggie is a slightly crazy middle aged woman, who imagines the ways she met her current companion and she has flashbacks imagining herself as a young woman having sex with him as a young man. The first scene is between Eric Edwards and Kim Pope and it's pretty good, they are both very innocent in this scene. It's strange to see Eric Edwards so young looking as he was in this film.

Naked Came the Stranger reviews:

NOTE: This is not your typical review. Others have done an excellent job reviewing the content, scenes, performances, etc. of this porn classic. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. The important info is that which follows. NAKED (AND EDITED!) CAME THE STRANGER ON DVD VCA has released another of the Henry Paris (Radley Metzger) hardcore classics on DVD, Naked Came the Stranger. They should have retitled it EDITED Came the Stranger and warned everyone ahead of time, because this one is really a hatchet job.

Opening of Misty Beethoven, The reviews:
review on

What do you get when you mix Metzer, a classic play, two very hot actors, and a relatively big budget? You get the best porno movie ever made. Unfortunately, that's not saying very much since most porn movies are extremely bad and being the best of the worst isn't exactly a very good accomplishment. The largest problem with this movie is that the plot was razor thin and extremely fragmented. The flow of the story was continuously interrupted by needless scenes of blowjobs. (Way too many blowjobs in my opinion. Metzer is way too obsessed with blowjobs. The ratio of blowjobs to vaginal sex was something like 10 to 1.) He also liked to add in ridiculous dialogue to the ends of good scenes. I suppose his intention was to break the tension of sexual arousal with some comedy. (Mainstream movies do this all the time like when they add a comedy bit to an action sequence.) This device did not work for this movie because it ended up coming across as being stupid rather than funny which is funny since the play that this movie is based on is actually funny all the way through.

After side-by-side, shot-by-shot comparison of the new DVD version of the Henry Paris (Radley Metzger) classic with an old video that appears to have been made from an original release print of the film, only two short shots and the end title appear to be missing from the new DVD.

Length: 84:20 Year: 1975 The Opening Of Misty Beethoven has everything that makes a great film and not just a great porno. It is funny, cute, sweet, and very sexy. In my opinion everything came together perfectly in this film to make it maybe the best porno of all time. This is certainly the best porno I have seen in my admitedly rather limited viewing of the genre. VCA has done a superb job with this dvd they have included a commentary track with the star of the movie Jamie Gillis and supporting actress Gloria Leonard. They both provide interesting tidbits about the film and its making and about the other actors and actresses that took part in the film. The audio quality is excellent. The video quality is pretty good there is a problem with a lightening at the top and bottom of the screen but it is not too distracting, but this is the only problem with the video of note. The story of this film is based on the movie Pygmalion. This movie has been made numerous times. This version of course involves Dr.
