Films of Phil Prince: Avon 7 Triple Feature reviews:
review on

The Films of Phil Prince: Avon 7 Triple Feature is a mixed bag. The Taming of Rebecca is worth having as a film, but the transfer isn't the greatest and the film is missing a little footage. Angel in Distress isn't the greatest film that Prince made, the transfer is a mess, and is missing even more footage. Daughters of Discipline also isn't the greatest film that Prince made and is on the superior Avon Triple Feature: Savage Sadists / Den of Dominance / Daughters of Discipline release by Vinegar Syndrome. After Hours Cinema has only included a leaflet for an extra.

review on

Distribpix have gone all out with the Blu-ray release of The Opening of Misty Beethoven providing the best quality version of this film seen yet on home video and a wealth of extras that delve into the film itself. This release is highly recommended for fans of the film, even if they own the previous VCA release, or for any fans of classic adult cinema.

Waterpower reviews:
review on

Waterpower is a bizarre film to come from Shaun Costello that has an even more bizarre release history. The TLA Entertainment Exclusive DVD contains two versions of the film on the disc. One called the original version and one called the director's cut. Neither is, to the best of my knowledge either the original version or the director's cut. The video quality is very good on the original version and varies from very good to poor in the director's cut. As of now, The Historic Erotica version appears to be the best release of Waterpower to have come out as of yet, but hopefully someday a definitive version will get released.

Farmer's Daughters (Gourmet) reviews:
review on

It's all about raping, raping, and more raping when three escaped convicts happen upon Zebedy Colt's and Gloria Leonard's pervy little homestead in "Farmer's Daughters". A decent, 1975 release from Gourmet Video and Colt himself, this one is certainly heavy on the heavy-handed sex, and--from the best that I can tell--it seems that everyone except for Zebedy and Leonard ends up as a rapist by the time that all's said and done.

Dracula Exotica (TVX) reviews:

Dracula Exotica is a fun film from the beginning of the eighties. It combines a fun original story, with nicely done sex scenes, great locations, and some light comedy to create a film that is definitely worth checking out. The release from TVX Home Video is sadly very poor and is not worth picking up.

Dominatrix Without Mercy reviews:
review on

Dominatrix Without Mercy is a roughie that was made by Shaun Costello for the Avon cinema chain. This isn't one of the better roughies to have been made during the 70s, with no real plot just the gritty sex. Alpha Blue Archives has done a decent job with the release with the transfer coming from an actual film print.

Bill Eagle's TEMPTATIONS (1976) follows an old voyeur Howard Hugh (Jake Teague) and his personal assistant Raymond (John Leslie) cruising the streets with stops for the old guy to watch couples sucking and fucking throughout the first half of the flick. Enter his wife Rochelle (busty and beautiful Jennifer Welles) who discovers a video tape of a threesome (including Raymond) then makes a tape of her own in this terrific xxx comedy from the classic era. Trouble With Young Stuff, The reviews:

Joe Sarno (here as Otis Hamlin) writes and directs THE TROUBLE WITH YOUNG STUFF (1976) as farm girl Alice Anne (Crystal Sync) takes in her younger cousin Matilda (Jenny Baxter) who disrupts the order between the two couples living in the apartment. Sarno has been down this road before creating terrific features (both hard and soft core) that use an oversexed female as the catalyst for most of the film's sexual activities. In this hardcore production, he mixes lesbian encounters with blowjob and some straight sex action as the out-of-work female characters carry on in their bedrooms with little time spent outside their apartment. 1 hour 36 minutes. Standard frame.

Cast: Veronica Hart, Juliet Anderson, Marlene Willoughby, Merle Michaels, Jody Maxwell, Samantha Fox, John Leslie, Richard Bolla, Bobby Astyr, Ron Hudd and Joey Silvera and in sex roles; Jolet Kodet, Candida Royalle, Erica Eaton, Elyse Alexander, Cami Graham, Josh Andrews, Al Greenbach, Henri Pachard and several others in nonsex roles. Director and writer: Henri Pachard Production date: 1981 Length: 83 min. Extras: A slide show with 20 stills and a catalog list of classic VCA titles. Audio/visual quality: The quality of print is excellent, with a minimum of speckles and other defects. The lighting tends to be a bit low, but in a way that's flattering to the performers. The mix of camera angles is good. Shadows partially obscure some of the action, though not to the point that it bothers me. The penetration footage is briefer and generally less explicit than is common nowadays; it holds up well, however, when compared to other movies of the day. Two of the five scenes contain sex sounds only.

Opening of Misty Beethoven, The reviews:
review on

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the production of "The Opening of Misty Beethoven", the 1970's adult film classic from director Radley Metzger and VCA. Starring Constance Money as a young prostitute whom the late Jamie Gillis chances upon while plying her trade in a Parisian theater, this flick traces her journey from an erotically uninspired bore to a talk-of-the-town, world-class sexpot. Indeed, under Gillis' tutelage and with his wealthy friend's (Jacqueline Beudant's) fortune, Money transforms from a hapless, young harlot unwilling to suck a dick to a seasoned pro, capable of pleasuring a group of men, turning homosexuals with her charms, and ultimately seducing the most powerful name in men's publishing and his mistress (Gloria Leonard).

What do you get when you mix Metzer, a classic play, two very hot actors, and a relatively big budget? You get the best porno movie ever made. Unfortunately, that's not saying very much since most porn movies are extremely bad and being the best of the worst isn't exactly a very good accomplishment. The largest problem with this movie is that the plot was razor thin and extremely fragmented. The flow of the story was continuously interrupted by needless scenes of blowjobs. (Way too many blowjobs in my opinion. Metzer is way too obsessed with blowjobs. The ratio of blowjobs to vaginal sex was something like 10 to 1.) He also liked to add in ridiculous dialogue to the ends of good scenes. I suppose his intention was to break the tension of sexual arousal with some comedy. (Mainstream movies do this all the time like when they add a comedy bit to an action sequence.) This device did not work for this movie because it ended up coming across as being stupid rather than funny which is funny since the play that this movie is based on is actually funny all the way through.

NOTE: This is not your typical review. Others have done an excellent job reviewing the content, scenes, performances, etc. of this porn classic. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. The important info is that which follows. MISTY (ALMOST) INTACT! To paraphrase one of Jamie Gillis lines in the movie, Theyve left alone Misty Beethoven! Theyve left alone Misty Beethoven! After side-by-side, shot-by-shot comparison of the new DVD version of the Henry Paris (Radley Metzger) classic with an old video that appears to have been made from an original release print of the film, only two short shots and the end title appear to be missing from the new DVD.
